We made it all the way down to Miyazaki, in Kyushu! Not many tourists end up in Kyushu since it's so far from Tokyo and Kyoto, but it was such a beautiful place! Miyazaki prefecture is easily one of the most beautiful places we've been so far!

Gifu Day 1
After Fukui we drove east and headed into the mountains of Gifu! Gifu is the prefecture right next to where we live so we've been there a lot, and it's one of my favorite prefectures. Most of it is mountainous so the roads are windy and scenic. They lead you past numerous lakes and dams settled midway between small villages.
Our first stop was my beloved Gujo Hachiman! The water city. Because it's still April no one's swimming yet, but this time we finally did their famous fake food sample workshop. The woman who ran it was so nice!
We finished up in Gero, an onsen town. Gerogero is the sound frogs make (so I guess you could say Gero city translates to Ribbit city??) so all the mascots were frogs. It was super cute. :D There were a ton of ryokan with onsen you could stay at, and some of them were quite affordable! (A nice ryokan can often be hundreds of dollars). Okanotv recorded most of Gero and our ryokan so if you wNt to see a video on it check out his channel!
There are tons of crafts you can try making throughout this prefecture, and even more shokunin. One of the most famous cities here is Seki, which I don't think we'll be going to this trip, where the world-famous Seki knives are made (marketed as Shun under the company Kai abroad). Aside from cutlery, Gifu also has a ton of Japanese sword makers as well. :D Jun and I will be going back on our own later to make videos of all of these things, so no worries! Odigo Japan #odigo47
Fukui Day 1
Today we started our second trip with Odigo Japan! We're in Fukui prefecture, a small prefecture on the Western coast of Japan. We rented a car again and drove over with Okanotv and Moe Style. Our first stop was Eiheiji temple, one of Japan's largest Buddhist training temples. You can walk through the buildings and watch the monks around you cleaning, praying, and even gathering for chants.
We're not supposed to take pictures of the monks so we wanted to protect their privacy, but their chanting was incredible to hear and I've never seen anything like it!
The temple costs 500 yen to get into and there was a bilingual monk at the entrance who handed us pamphlets with information and rules and answered our questions. They treat everyone who visits as if you're a religious student, and you can actually make reservations to practice your meditation there, which Chris did once in the past. It was a really peaceful place and I'd love to live nearby!
So far Japan's Buddhist temples are honestly some of my favorite spots in the country. Kegonji, which is closer to where we live, is one of my favorite places in the country to go and we've been there quite a few times. It's also a beautiful temple surrounded by forests with a pilgrimage trail up through the mountains behind it. It's one of my dreams to hike one of Japan's Buddhist pilgrimage trails one day.
We're going to be traveling for the next 2+ months straight so videos might be a little slower for the time being, but by the time this is all done later this year we'll have traveled from the northern to southern tips of the country and should have a lot of new experiences to share with you guys!
