Speaking at the Counter Wildlife Trafficking Partnership Forum this morning on what one person can really do in terms of inspiring change, maximizing reach, mobilizing support, and sustaining movements in order to tackle wildlife trafficking and preserve our environment.
Extremely honoured to share the panel with Venerable Maha Sompong Talaputto, Buddhist Dharma Teacher, Justice Michael Wilson from the Hawaii Supreme Court, Le Thi Thu Thuy from the Vietnam chamber of commerce and industry, and John Roberts, Conservation Director of Minor Hotel Group.
✨ Main takeaways ✨
- influencers, celebrities and content creators have power to influence and inspire change through their platforms and personal choices by making responsible choices and leading by example.
- religious leaders can be powerful influencers to dispel myths that wild animal parts have magical or spiritual powers.
- businesses and tourism sector can do more to promote sustainable activities and environmentally friendly holidays for the public in order to raise awareness and promote conservation efforts.
- the rule of law is still a powerful vehicular for change and should be used more effectively in order to bring about climate justice and action.
- real and decisive action needs a collaborative effort from all sectors, private, public and government.
*Don’t limit yourself to a label or put yourself in a box before you take action. Everyone has the power to make a difference.

It is heart-breaking to read how a woman , one who is already vulnerable due to her mental condition, be taken advantage to such lenght.
As I read this news today, I take it upon myself to remember this woman's name - Risa. To be a victim of sex trafficking, brought to an unknown country, be raped by an unknown man; no other person should ever have to face what Risa had gone through. With the assistance of Indonesia Consulate General Office, I pray that Risa would be able to return home as safely as possible and be given ample support once she is home.
Amidst our fight with COVID 19, I urge that we care more for those who are vulnerable out there: the women, the children, the poor and the mentally-challenged. Human trafficking , sex trafficking and raping are heineious crime.
While the government needs to do more to ensure no other person should ever be violeted like Risa, I also believe that an action as small as looking out for our neighbor and people in our community can make a difference.
Let's choose to care. Let's choose to lend our hand to ensure there would be no more case like Risa. This concerns not merely of our nation, this is a case of human right. I believe small action from all of us will definitely make a big difference to someone's safety out there.

MEM's Philosophy:
With so much going on in the world today, sometimes we can’t even spare some time for ourselves. To reflect on the things we’ve done, or the things we haven’t or should’ve done. MEM WATCHES encourages you to voice your opinion, make yourself heard, and most importantly, make a difference. Because after all, that’s what MEM is all about. We are here to make a DIFFERENCE.
Making a difference is important, but we need to make a difference for/to things that matter. it's hard but it's possible.
