New Zealand’s Department of Conservation recently released 104 juvenile Kakī (or Black Stilt)–-the world’s rarest wading bird--into the wild in the South Island’s Mackenzie Basin as part of its ongoing Kakī Recovery Programme! In 2020 the adult Kakī population increased by 30% from 2019 to a total of 169 adults. It was the most significant increase since the recovery programme began more than 40 years ago. Some of the Kakī that were released were the first birds to be reared in a new brooding facility near Twizel, which Global Wildlife Conservation helped fund with the generous support of the Sheth Sangreal Foundation. Your steps ? on the boardwalk take you through a classroom of education in the life of an Orang Utan, where you learn amazing facts about this intelligent primate
Visitors ??? were able to view the Orang Utan from the boardwalk & the exhibition area, sparking strong interest & curiousity in these red-haired primates, whose genetic make-up is approximately 97% similar to that of humans.
The orangutan, or ‘man (orang) of the forest ?? (hutan)’ in the local Bahasa Malaysia ?? language, exhibits truly human-like mannerism in many facets of its behavior.
The Foundation also serves as a comprehensive, national resource centre for information on the orangutan and links to collaborations with related information centres worldwide ? ?
