It’s that time of year again – to dream of love, the moon and the Milky Way 🎎😍🌛🌌 What is the story behind Qixi festival?
🇹🇼🇹🇼 Qixi Festival (Chinese Valentine's Day) The tale of The Weaver Girl and the Cowherd has been celebrated as the Qixi Festival. The Qixi Festival or called Chinese Valentine’s Day is one of the most celebrated Taiwan festivals among couples. It falls on the 7th day of the 7th lunar month on the Chinese calendar.
The festival originated from the romantic legend of two lovers, Zhinü and Niulang, who were the weaver girl and the cowherd.
They were banished to opposite sides of the Milky Way, forbidden to meet. But once a year, on the 7th day of the 7th lunar month, a flock of magpies would form a bridge to reunite the lovers for just one day. The story became a celebration and the day Qixi became the Eastern Valentine’s Day.
. 🇯🇵🇯🇵 The festival is called Tanabata in Japan, where it falls on July 7. Enormous colourful streamers can be seen around the country and carnivals are held. The most famous one is the Sendai Tanabata festival, held in the Sendai region, whose gaudy festive decorations recall traditional Japanese aesthetics. The festival often ends with a firework display in August.
