Something in your Hand
“Moses answered, “But, behold, they will not believe me, nor listen to my voice; for they will say, ‘Yahweh has not appeared to you.’” Yahweh said to him, “What is that in your hand?” He said, “A rod.” He said, “Throw it on the ground.” He threw it on the ground, and it became a snake; and Moses ran away from it. Yahweh said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand, and take it by the tail.” He stretched out his hand, and took hold of it, and it became a rod in his hand. “That they may believe that Yahweh, the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.”” (Exodus 4:1-5 WEB)
God likes to take what is simple and insignificant in the eyes of man, and turn it into a carrier of His power. This is how He confounds the mighty through weak things so that no flesh may boast before Him.
God may have given you a skill or talent that seems so unspectacular, but with His favor upon it, you will prosper in a way that can only be God at work!
You don’t have to look far off or compare with others who are skilled in other things. God asks you, “What is in your hand,” not because He does not know the answer, but it is to alert you to what He has blessed.
Do you want to serve God? “Lord, I have no skills like others. I cannot preach from the stage. I am afraid of crowds. I can only cook in the kitchen by myself.” Then serve through your cooking. Feed God’s people and share God’s love through that way. He has blessed that skill in your hand to prosper in a spectacular way. Your cooking will be a ministry.
A shepherd’s rod in Moses’ hand was used to do mighty miracles in Egypt and part the Red Sea. A jar of meal and a jar of oil in the widow’s house were both blessed with never-ending supply. A simple home cooked meal of five loaves of bread and two small fishes in a little boy’s hands were multiplied to feed many thousands of people.
What is in your hand? Ask the Lord to alert you to what He has blessed, and go forth knowing that He has supplied the power you need to prosper in it.
