Americans Skip Millions of Loan Payments as Coronavirus Takes Economic Toll
🌪Americans have skipped payments on more than 100 million student loans, auto loans and other forms of debt since the coronavirus hit the U.S., the latest sign of the toll the pandemic is taking on people’s finances.
take a toll: 造成損失、傷害
🌪The number of accounts that enrolled in deferment, forbearance or some other type of relief since March 1 and remain in such a state rose to 106 million at the end of May, triple the number at the end of April, according to credit-reporting firm TransUnion.
📈The largest increase occurred for student loans, with 79 million accounts in deferment or other relief status, up from 18 million a month earlier. Auto loans in some type of deferment doubled to 7.3 million accounts. Personal loans in deferment doubled to 1.3 million accounts.
🏦In other types of lending, consumers are actively seeking help. Many credit-card, auto-loan and personal-loan lenders continue to allow consumers to skip or pause payments, in hopes of buying time for the economy to recover and for consumers to get back on track with their payments.
get back on track:

🇳🇿New Zealand Claims a Victory Over Coronavirus, But Doubts Persist
🥝New Zealand declared a victory over the new coronavirus, the culmination of a tough social experiment that contrasted with less-restrictive efforts by Western countries to contain the pathogen but not eradicate it.
例如 ‘Avengers: Endgame’ is the perfect culmination to 11 years of franchise building.「復仇者聯盟:終局之戰」是11年來系列建構的完美巔峰
🐻The country’s 4.8 million citizens were ordered to stay home on March 23 and not to socialize with anyone outside their household “bubble” for at least four weeks. Excursions had to be essential, and solitary. There have been 1,122 cases confirmed in New Zealand, with 19 deaths, most of them elderly people with prior health conditions.
此活動靈感源自英國童書「We're Going on a Bear Hunt」,重點在於呼應書中詩句「We're not scared.」
🐑Governments around the world are balancing the relaxation of coronavirus-related shutdowns against the risks of fueling fresh outbreaks of the virus and against economic pain. New Zealand’s isolation as a small island economy far from anywhere helped it avoid the kind of outbreaks seen elsewhere. But it also makes it vulnerable to future flare-ups, if it relaxes current restrictions on travel.
🐄The lockdown—known locally as Level 4—brought the country to a virtual standstill. A recession is expected. The most dire forecasts predict New Zealand’s economy could contract by as much as 10%, and the jobless rate will triple its 4% rate in December to the highest levels in nearly 30 years. A paper published in the journal Science on April 14 said one-time lockdowns likely won’t be enough and that physical-distancing measures may need to be in place intermittently until 2022.
Traffic came to a virtual standstill for more than an hour.
