🧬 What most consider “genetics”:
1) Natural Speed & Strength
2) Physical Proportions
3) Metabolism (ie, hormone balance)
-
🤚🏽 Five more categories I think are missing from the discussion:
1) Coordination
2) Focus/Determination
3) Reflexes/Reactions
4) Body Consciousness
5) Injury Resilience
-
Being aware of the various levels of ability in anything people are born with makes coaching them much easier 👌🏽 Even as three males in the same family, we represent a wide spectrum.
-
My brother and father both have slightly higher coordination and much better reaction time than I do, making them much more talented athletes at sports that require execution of skill under variable surroundings. They’re born rugby players and I couldn’t be much less so 😂
-
I’ve got slightly higher body consciousness and determination so am better at learning how to do things that don’t come naturally or are boring. (Read: Bodybuilding, Yoga) 🧘♂️ Their list of things that don’t come naturally is irritatingly short though.
-
My brother and I both sadly didn’t inherit our father’s bulletproof tolerance for resisting injury, or his natural strength, but I got some decent hip mechanics for squats and martial arts 🥊 (very different from competitive fighting) and my brother has ended up taller than us with broad pec attachments.
-
Swings and roundabouts 🎠 Know your strengths and weaknesses and you’ll be more logical in your exercise choice and realistic about your expectations.
-
I won’t stray out of my lane and pretend to be a neuroscientist, but if the above interests you 🤓 there are some interesting ways you can correlate neurotransmitter balances in people to a lot of it. It you’re a coach, it will help you make better decisions when recommending what training modalities your client should pursue, and understand how to tailor your programming to them.

【Pitching in the Age of COVID-19】
Pitching is a very fundamental skill that we help all of our founders develop. Whether it's to potential employees, clients, or investors, understanding your target audience and crafting your narrative accordingly is a ubiquitous art that is pivotal through all lifecycles of your startup.
But COVID19 has completely redefined the rules of the game. Subtle emotional cues that you would normally pick up through body language and facial expressions have now been washed out by pixelated screens and internet latency. Building rapport through prolonged pleasantries and adhoc chit chat have been mulled over by coronavirus talk and regimented back-to-back virtual meetings.
And if you had a hard time captivating the attention of your audience in person, those efforts are even more likely to be thwarted now with the handful of distractions they literally have at their fingertips from internet browsers to messaging clients to phones.
Having now sat through dozens of virtual pitches, I'd like to pass on 5 tips to keep your audience interested and engaged (specifically geared towards founders pitching investors):
1. Do your homework
I can't stress this enough. This applies both in a pre and post COVID19 world. Leave as much guess work out of the equation by doing as much research on the person you're meeting as possible. If it's an investor, understand the basics of their fund, including fund size, areas of interest, geographic coverage, as well as the investor's background (age, schooling, nationality, etc.). Use these data points as way to build rapport and tailor your pitch accordingly.
2. Send your deck early
A prospective investor may or may not read it. But you have to at least give them that option. For the ones that do, the conversations are guaranteed to become 2x more productive, with an initial field of understanding and questions having already been set. You typically only have 1 hour, so best make use of that time.
3. Streamline your deck
Often times slides are filled with a superfluous amount of information or too many graphics where the main point gets lost in translation. Make sure you can summarize each slide in a one-sentence takeaway, and that each slide helps illustrate either 1) the problem 2) your solution 3) your team 4) your traction. Generally 10 - 12 slides will suffice. Anything extra, put it in the appendix!
4. Insert Q&A breaks
Usually when someone is confused or skeptical, it shows on their face. Less evident on virtual meetings unfortunately. Strategically insert Q&A breaks in your pitch to make sure your audience is on the same page, rather than letting questions pile up till the end. This also helps make the pitch more dynamic, more engaging, and more of a conversation. Studies have also shown that people tend to tune out after 10 minutes, which is why Apple normally swaps out its speakers every 10 minutes or so at its annual WWDC.
5. Practice, practice, practice.
A lot of times it's not so much what you say, but how you say it. Early stage investors are often times betting on feeling as much as rational hypotheses. This means you need to exude a sense of confidence and passion, which may be hard to generate when you're speaking into a camera for 1 hour. Try recording yourself on camera to see how you actually come off and then adjust accordingly.
Furthermore, don't just practice the pitch in and of itself, but also Q&A where a lot of the "sale" actually occurs. This is when investors are testing your wit and execution, to really understand if you know your space and your business, and extracting any insights you may/should have. They're also looking to see if you have a true passion for the problem at hand. Startups are hard. Very hard. If you don't have a strong heart or "why", you will not make it.
5.5 This goes without saying, but when conducting virtual pitches, make sure you have good hygiene, dress appropriately, and are in a quiet place where you won't be distracted by pets, children, or loud chatter.
Happy pitching!

Tried @chatuchaksg earlier!Love how they tailor their menu for health-conscious Singaporeans, because their drinks are less sweet but yet up to quality standards! .
Tasted quite a few egglets (Different Flavours)today! Love how they presented their egglets with a scoop of ice cream in it. Also, the egglets was crispy on the outer layer and was moist and soft on the inner layer! Indeed fragrant and was definitely an amazing Thai-dessert experience for me! VLOG UPDATE WEEK 16 - Commitment To Your Goal
As i type this, i'm now less than 2 weeks out to comp. Everything is slowly falling in place. These days the main thing now is focus. In the words of Azizul Hasni Awang The Keirin World Champion - he told me to remember every single training I have done and that will help motivate me as the comp date gets closer.
Commitment to your goal is so important and I don't mean it from just a fitness perspective but in every aspect of life. From something as simple as waking up early or even brushing your teeth, sending a text to your loved ones to tell them where you are... these are all commitments. You do it cause you have to.
I'll honest - its silly - but I do get emotional, thinking of the hours i've put in for training. The amount i have spent on food, petrol, getting from place to the next, sacrificing certain things so I can focus on comp. There's a smile at the corner of my mouth as I think about all the things that have happened since the 1st of Jan.
With the little time i have left, I'm pretty happy how my body is coming in. Cause there are lines I've never seen before, at my abs, at my shoulders... it's truly fascinating to see this present which is yourself unfold.
Costume
Please do not do what I did if this is your first comp and get your comp to the last minute. I'm happy that the backup costume came in time, I've got my friend Nila to help me tailor the costume, i found my white wedge shoe... I'm fortunate where I'm able to spend a bit more on my costume. By right I would love to save some money but at the same time, I rather put what I can afford into this comp. Hence making sure I look the part and I look good. I've already gone this far, it would be such a waste, if I didn't give everything I have.
Nutrition has changed slightly. From 1650 i'm now at 1550 with a macro breakdown of Protein 60% Fat 30% Carb 10%. I know it does look crazy low, but honestly i'm doing ok with the food. Nutrition i can handle, what I can't handle is not getting enough rest.
Rest is crucial for anyone who was to lose fat and weight. Lack of sleep will cause you to bloat , your stress hormone cortisol goes up and it'll disturb the digestive system.
Next week, will be my final Vlog Prep for this Journey To Comp Series. Very excited, as butterflies fly in my tummy and mind. Good night everyone and thank you again for following my journey!
