“Therefore I make known to you that no man speaking by God’s Spirit says, “Jesus is accursed.” No one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” but by the Holy Spirit.” (1 Corinthians 12:3 WEB)
In this world, there are people who would use the guise of religion as a means to gain the approval of others.
For example, a famous person may talk about Jesus and quote Bible verses on TV, saying that he or she is a Christian—yet in the heart, there is no faith towards those words.
However, there is one thing that false believers cannot say. They cannot declare “Jesus is Lord” except by the power and influence of the Holy Spirit.
If a person is able to say that, it proves that he is a true believer.
Therefore, be careful of those who would try to sway your opinion by using religious words, yet they are not saved. One deception leads to another.
“Beloved, don’t believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit who confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit who doesn’t confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God, and this is the spirit of the Antichrist, of whom you have heard that it comes. Now it is in the world already.” (1 John 4:1-3 WEB)
There are many false prophets and apostles out there who are deceiving people, just as they themselves are deceived by the devil.
If you listen to many different speakers out there, then be careful. Clarify some things before you believe their words.
Do they confess Jesus Christ as Lord? Do they believe that Jesus came in the flesh, died at the cross, was buried and rose again on the third day, never to die again?
Their answers to these questions will reveal their true nature: whether they are children of light, or children of darkness.
Does a so-called apostle or prophet keep saying “God” but never uses the name Jesus? Does he speak as though the power comes from himself, exalting himself in the sight of men? These are red flags that will warn you.
“But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run back and forth, and knowledge shall be increased.”” (Daniel 12:4 WEB)
In the end-times, knowledge will increase—both true and false knowledge. We are inundated with so much information and knowledge that we must rely on the Holy Spirit to discern what is true and what is false.
It boils down to the one test I mentioned above: does the person believe that Jesus Christ is Lord? Be established in the true Gospel of Grace and be not deceived. Shalom!
