【毛孩食安事故】美國食品藥物管理局於本月17日發公開警告信指，先後四次檢查發現，
Midwestern Pet Foods, Inc. 在不同州份的廠房皆有各異的食安問題，雖然有關公司已先後回收有關寵物食品，但FDA懷疑食品和一些寵物死亡與患病案件有關。FDA要求公司在15個工作天內發書面回應，否則會導致法律行動，FDA也有相關食品列表供消費者參考。
文件指，截至8月9日，FDA懷疑約有130宗死亡和220宗患病案例與Midwestern Pet Foods, Inc. 的寵物食品有關，局方第一輪檢查正因--「狗隻因食用該公司SPORTMiX乾糧後患病或死亡」觸發。
在2020年年底至今日二月，局方展開第一輪檢查，發現有關公司的SPORTMiX乾糧中，黃麴毒素約為558ppb，遠超標準值20ppb。此後三次額外檢查中，局方發現該公司疑似
嚴重違規之外，Monmouth, Illinois廠房的樣本更有沙門氏菌的陽性反應。
雖然Midwestern Pet Foods, Inc.每次都有回收有關寵物食品，但多次事故令FDA發出是次警告信。局方要求，15 個工作日內做出書面答覆，包括公司計劃採取的具體步驟，以糾正他們的違規行為。如未能及時解決違規行為會導致法律訴訟，包括產品扣押和禁令。
