**********
Dear Mom and Dad,
Going back 35 years ago, in 1985, you both kindly allowed a
young man who came from the other side of the world to be a part
of the Friedman family in St. Louis.
Despite so many responsibilities to take care of those people around
you, including all living creatures, you still had time to take such
extraordinary care of that young man, with your pure love, generosity
and great sacrifice.
The year 1985 may be just one year in your amazing 60th wedding anniversary,
but it was one of the most memorable and meaningful years that changed the life
of that young man from Thailand. You have made me the person who I am today.
I have learnt so much from the way you take great care of each other,
your love and care for Meg, Jill and Dana and most importantly for embracing me in your family.
And I hope you still count me as one of your family members!
Mom and Dad, you are an inspiration and a great example for me and everyone
around you. Although we walk in different paths, live in different parts of the world,
but I know deep in my heart that we are achieving the same goal which I learnt
directly from you.
And that is My Heart is Happy whenever it beats for others.
You have always shown me how your hearts are happy whenever they beat for others.
Your love has been the foundation for strength, bravery and sacrifice in so many
lives, including mine.
On this very special occasion of your 60th wedding anniversary, I send you much
love and hugs from me and my family in Thailand. I wish you great health and
happiness. And I really want to visit you again soon. I really miss you all.
Much love and gratitude,
Your son.

3 years ago I missed the chance to take a picture with Mr. Charles Lloyd after his Taipei concert. I was so sad and kept talking about it till my friend Dee photoshopped a picture for me.
So when I learned that Mr. Charles Lloyd is coming back to Taipei again this year, I was so haapppyyyy!!! Happy that I could listen to his live music again of course, but also happy that this time I can finally take a picture with him.
Why does it mean so much to me to have a picture with Mr. Lloyd? The answer is very simple──because his music touches me deeply.
About 18 years ago, I heard Jazz music for the first time in my life. At the time I bought a DVD, it's called《One Night with Blue Note》(a live concert in 1985). I remember I kept repeating the song "Tone Poem" over and over again.
Every time I watched/ listened to "Tone Poem", I was so touched and cried many times. I couldn't explain why back then. (I guess now I know why a bit more. I guess it's the magic of music. Music communicates/ conveys "love" in another level, the level which reason and analysis don't work no more.)
Also, while watching the DVD, I felt, this saxophonist was using his WHOLE LIFE to play music! What kind of world was he in when he was playing? Where is that world? Will I ever experience that myself one day in music?
So, this is how I got to know Mr. Charles Lloyd's name. It's not like nowadays if you want to know any musician's name or his/her music, just google it. It was gathering bits of information here and there from CD liner notes, DVD case...etc. It took more time, but it was fun!

Yesterday before the Master Class for the NTCH Summer Jazz Camp students, I told Mr. Lloyd that my friend made a photoshopped picture for me with him. He laughed and, we took a pictureeee!!!
Mr. Lloyd and bassist Rueben Rogers, guitarist Julian Lage shared so much in the class yesterday, I really learned a lot and I hope all the students did to.

And, thank you so much Mr. Charles Lloyd for your encouragement yesterday, I will keep playing (hopefully playing beautifully)!!!
