Taiwan will provide all necessary assistance to former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe if he decides to visit to pay tribute to late President Lee Teng-hui (李登輝) on the first anniversary of his death, according to Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).

美國🇺🇸由率團訪台的國務院 #柯拉克 次卿和 美國在台協會 AIT #酈英傑 處長代表出席；日本🇯🇵 #森喜朗 前首相也再度來台送李前總統最後一程；#西藏 宗教領袖 #達賴喇嘛 尊者則特別錄製慰詞，表示李前總統的精神，將在這片土地永續伴隨重生。
蔡英文 Tsai Ing-wen 總統在追思會中表示，李前總統的一生從思考「人生應當如何？」為起點，到「民之所欲，長在我心」的施政理念，在風起雲湧民主化浪潮的年代中，領導台灣成就了 #寧靜革命。他在晚年仍不斷透過出訪、寫作和演講，激勵我們要「走出一條屬於台灣自己的道路」！

Today the memorial service for Former President Dr. Lee Teng-hui was held at Aletheia University in Taipei, with political figures from the US, Japan and Taiwan in attendance, including Under Secretary Keith Krach, AIT Director Brent Christensen and Former Japanese Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori. His Holiness the Dalai Lama recorded a video message to pay his respects, saying, "Now he is no longer here, but we Buddhists believe in life after life, so most probably he will be reborn in Taiwan." President Tsai Ing-wen offered up the following words, "Thanks to President Lee's efforts, #Taiwan now shines as a beacon of democracy. We have a responsibility to continue his endeavours, allowing the will of the people to reshape Taiwan, further defining Taiwan's identity and deepening and bolstering #democracy and #freedom."
