【一起在Vogue 總部學英文吧】祝大家在連假好好 "decompress" 😀
最近為了一個新課程在建置一個超大型口說、寫作的語料庫，因此大量地分析了很多的文章、影集、和 podcasts 逐字稿分析。
也因此重看了 Vogue 的 73 Questions with XXX 系列特輯。這集訪問的是知名Hollywood 影星 Emily Blunt。在影片一開始，攝影者問了 Emily Blunt 為什麼在 Vogue? (因為很多影片是在名人家中拍攝)：
Interviewer: Why are you here on the Vogue floor?
Emily: So, Anna is in Europe for the week, and she's asked me to take over the offices for her.
Interviewer: Big shoes to fill.
Emily: I know. Come with me.
1️⃣ So 在這邊是發語詞，不是因此
2️⃣ Anna 是知名、兇悍的 Vogue 主編 Anna Wintour，也是電影 The Devil Wears Prada 當中 Meryl Streep 真的在描繪的人。
3️⃣ she's asked me 是 she has asked me 的縮寫版
4️⃣ have big shoes to fill 這個在這邊代表的是「(因前人做太好) 工作不好做、責任重大的意思)」。這邊提供更精確的意思：to have to work really hard in order to live up to the high standards set by the person who had the job before you
5️⃣口語中，在回應你同意對方所說的、所描繪的狀況、情緒，他們很少用 I agree with you on that. (太正式) I know...I know right...是他們生活常講的。
在其中一幕, Vogue 裡的人叫 Emily 在兩條皮帶中選擇一條。她覺得很難抉擇，並說：It's a tough call. 這邊的 call 是決定、不是打電話。我們也常說 Good call! (好決定、挑得好)
在另外一幕，Emily 被問到她最喜歡的「放鬆」方式。Interviewer 問的是 Best way to decompress? Emily 說她會做 Transcendental Meditation (超覺靜坐)來放鬆。這邊的放鬆一字不是大家常見、常用的 relax. 也是我們可以記起來用用看的！
