Here in Sabah, the Borneon Gibbon is confined to tall primary rainforest in lowland and lower mountain areas. Known as arboreal, they are often found in a small family group comprising a male, female, and their young.

The Bornean Gibbon is unique among other apes. They are incredibly fast, jumping as far as 50 feet between trees at speeds as fast as 34 mph! Gibbons are also monogamous, bonding with a single mate for life, and like all apes, lack a tail. With their super long arms, they are one of my favorite animals to observe in the wild.

Endemic only to Borneo, you can't find this Gibbon in any part of the world.

If you’re ever in the market for a new alarm clock, a wild Gibbon call will do the trick. The iconic great “whoop whoop” call of a Bornean Gibbon (Hylobates Muelleri) resembles extraterrestrial more than it does wildlife.
Wondering if a Bornean Gibbon is male or female?
Best to have your binoculars at the ready as they do not show sexual dimorphism in their fur coloration which is typically grey or brown with a bright ring to highlight its face.
