第31屆獨立精神獎入圍名單出爐《卡蘿》領先群雄

多年來皆在奧斯卡獎前一天開獎的獨立精神獎（Independent Spirit Awards）被視為最重要的風向球之一，今年由《卡蘿》提名最佳影片、導演、編劇、攝影、雙女主角等6項拔得頭籌。

同樣角逐最佳影片、導演、攝影的《無境之獸》則是外加最佳男主、男配角，共入圍5項緊追在後。已先拿下最佳整體表現的《驚爆焦點》也入圍最佳影片、導演、編劇、剪輯等4項。

最佳影片的強力對手還有全片以iPhone 5s拍攝的變性女孩捉姦闖蕩記《夜晚還年輕》，不但同時入圍最佳導演，兩位以連環炮撐全場的素人演員也分別提名最佳女主、女配，據傳片商也將以女演員身分為她們報名奧斯卡獎。

《王牌冤家》編劇初嘗停格動畫的《安諾瑪麗莎》在威尼斯影展等地開出好評後，也同樣一舉入圍最佳影片、導演、編劇、女配等4項，該片似乎會在明年1/29於台灣的極少數戲院上映。被視為獎季大熱門的《不存在的房間》則意外掉出最佳影片、導演名單，僅入圍最佳首部劇本、剪輯、女主角。

以性啟蒙探索女性成長的《女孩愛愛日記》則有不斐成績，提名最佳首部長片、首部劇本、女主角。同樣入圍3項的還有年度驚悚新星《靈病》、放蕩子面對重病母親的《James White》、探討非洲難民移居歐洲求生的《Mediterranea》，以及一對印第安兄妹因家族分崩離析而面臨人生交界的《Songs My Brothers Taught Me》。

本屆獨立精神獎原已找來Elizabeth Olsen、《星際大戰七部曲：原力覺醒》John Boyega公佈入圍名單，然而官網卻不小心先將名單上線，繼去年系統失誤後再次出包。

Although not the prolific scorer he was in his earlier years with the Philadelphia 76ers, Allen Iverson is still a difference maker.


The 34-year-old Iverson showed he still can score, getting 11 of his 20 points in the third quarter. And his presence alone was a factor as the 76ers pulled away in the final period for a 116-106 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday night.

Lou Williams scored 22 points and Andre Iguodala had 19 points, nine assists and seven rebounds for the 76ers. Both Williams and Iguodala scored 10 points in the fourth quarter, when the 76ers stretched the lead to double digits. Iguodala said part of the credit belongs to Iverson.

"He has helped us out a lot, he really opens the floor for everybody when he's out there," Iguodala said. "He still draws a lot of attention and teams can't key on myself or anyone else."

Iverson is not happy about being limited to 28-30 minutes a game, which are recommended by the team's medical staff to come in shorter increments due to his arthritic right knee. He missed four recent games with a sore knee, but played 32 minutes against the Kings in his second game back, making 6-of-14 shots and adding five rebounds, three assists and three steals.

"All my life I've been watching him play and to have the opportunity to play him was fun," said Kings guard Sergio Rodriguez, who was matched up against Iverson at times. "He showed that he can still play and he can play well. He looked great."

Iverson was at his best in the third quarter, when the 76ers took the lead for good and went into the fourth ahead 79-76. He had 11 points, scoring on a variety of shots, including a 3-pointer that put Philadelphia in front 72-70.

"It's important for me to do whatever I can to help the guys and give them confidence that we can win games," Iverson said. "I was telling them when we were down 13 in the first quarter to stay with it, and make them believe we could come back." Even with Iverson on the bench for less than five minutes in the fourth quarter, that confidence was evident. The 76ers spread the court, moved the ball effectively, and repeatedly made perimeter shots when they built the lead to double digits in putting together back-to-back wins for the first time since Oct. 30-31.

Rodney Carney and Elton Brand scored 14 points apiece for the 76ers. who connected on 9-of-16 3-pointers.

"Allen gives us another dimension, guys are really playing off him," 76ers coach Eddie Jordan said. "Lou Williams got it going, and Carney came off the bench and did a great job. All our guys played well in their roles."

Donte Greene and Omri Casspi each scored 21 points for the Kings, who have lost three of their last four home games. But unlike the previous losses, overtime affairs to Cleveland the Lakers, this loss came against a team that entered the game with only eight wins. Jason Thompson had 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Rodriguez also scored 15 points.

"We were ripe to be picked off tonight and we need to learn that we are not as good as people say we are," said Kings coach Paul Westphal, whose team defeated Denver on Monday. "Sometimes you have to not only bounce back from tough losses but you have to bounce back from big wins."

The Kings played their second straight game without rookie guard Tyreke Evans, who is nursing a sore ankle and is day to day. Beno Udrih played a rare poor game in his place, shooting 3 of 11, scoring nine points, and committing three turnovers.

"Tyreke is a big piece of our team and he's been showing that the whole year," Udrih said. "But we can't feel sorry for ourselves. Injuries are a part of the game and you deal with it."

Carney opened the fourth quarter with a pair of 3-pointers, and a jumper by Williams gave the 76ers a 90-81 advantage with 9:40 remaining. With the Kings missing open looks throughout the period, the 76ers' lead grew to 107-95 when Iguodala made a follow shot with 3:34 left.

The Kings squandered an 11-point lead after one quarter and were outscored 33-22 in the second. The aggressive inside play of Brand, who scored 11 points, helped fuel the 76ers' comeback. Casspi had 11 points for the Kings.

Game notes
In the offseason, Jordan was an early candidate for the Kings head coaching job, but took the offer from Philadelphia instead of waiting for the Kings to end their search, which resulted in the hiring of Westphal. ... Carney scored 12 points in his first 10 minutes off the bench, all of them coming via four 3-pointers. ... Iverson entered the game 1 for 3 this season in 3-point attempts, but made both attempts against the Kings.

George Karl may let the Nuggets fly down the court in the first half and then order them to apply the brakes in the second.

The Denver coach doesn't know what else to do.

He's frustrated with his team's play in third quarters this season. After jumping out to a big lead Tuesday night, the Nuggets had to hold on for a 107-99 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers.

"We ran great in the first half, we ran hard and it was some of the best sprinting we have seen this season," Karl said. "The second half, I don't know. We run in the first half (and) run out of gas."

Karl wanted to pull all five starters after an 18-point lead began to evaporate. He resisted the temptation even as the Nuggets were outscored 34-23 in the third period.

"Our starts in the third quarter are awful," Karl said. "I wouldn't even put that in a high school clinic. We come out non-focused, not running. I hope I don't do that (bench the starters), because that could be really ugly. But that is how bad I think our third quarters have been."

The first half, though, was what Karl wants to see. Allen Iverson, who finished with 31 points and 10 assists, was racing down the court, and his teammates were keeping up.

"A lot of times Coach talks about me beating guys down the court, and when I had the ball tonight, that wasn't the case," Iverson said. "They were beating me down the court, and I was just finding guys. They did a great job of finishing."

Carmelo Anthony added 29 points and Marcus Camby finished with 14 and 10 rebounds -- his 23rd double-double this season.

Anthony was at a loss to explain the Nuggets' third-quarter woes.

"If we knew as a team, we wouldn't start off third quarters like that," Anthony said. "We could've stepped up our defense a little more, but we won the game. It was an ugly game."

Portland coach Nate McMillan would agree. He took comfort in the fact the Blazers pulled within 99-93 with 1:44 remaining.

"Being right there doesn't do it," said McMillan, whose team has dropped 14 of the last 15 games in Denver. "We didn't play a good game."

LaMarcus Aldridge kept the Blazers in the game, finishing with 24 points and a career-high 17 rebounds. Zach Randolph added 26 points and Brandon Roy had 16. Jarrett Jack finished with 13 points and nine assists.

"Turnovers, turnovers, turnovers," said Roy, whose team had 13 of its 18 turnovers in the first half. "You can't beat a team playing like that. We were terrible."

The Nuggets held on to their late lead this time. When Portland played in Denver on Feb. 2, the Blazers came back from a seven-point deficit in the final 1:35 before losing 114-107 in overtime. Former Blazer Steve Blake took over in overtime, scoring eight of the Nuggets' 17 points.

Blake also had a big basket on Tuesday night. After Aldridge hit a shot to trim Denver's lead to six, Blake nailed a jumper with 1:24 remaining to put away the game.

"You are disappointed because you have a game like that under control and you don't put them away, which is what good teams do," Iverson said. "But the most important thing is just to get the win. We have to close out a lot better. We know that."

J.R. Smith returned to the court after missing eight of the last nine games due to arthroscopic surgery on his left knee. Smith played almost 15 minutes and hit just one 3-pointer. Denver came into the game shooting just 32.7 percent from 3-point range, which is last in the NBA. Smith was 1-for-3 against Portland.

When asked about the Nuggets' defensive performance in the second half, Karl beat his head against the microphone.

"Twenty-four great minutes, and then 24 minutes of frustration," Karl said with a grin. "I'd like to have a 48-minute game where we play well all four quarters with only small moments of lull. We are getting there and getting better."

Nuggets assistant coach Mike Dunlap took his name out of consideration for the University of Colorado basketball position Tuesday. He also recently told a search firm that he didn't have an interest in the openings at the University of Minnesota or University of Denver. ... Reserve G/F Fred Jones missed the game with a swollen right hand. He collided with G Sergio Rodriguez in practice Monday. ... Iverson's 10 assists gave him 4,503 for his career. ... Anthony picked up a technical in the fourth quarter for arguing a call.
