While it's wise to visit those established big players in town when it comes to Korean food, it does not mean you should give up on those relatively quieter new comers. Hanmalu Korean Restaurant at Vantage Desiran Tanjung (level 1) is one good example... opened for less than a month and manned by a Korean couple, this is the place to come for home-style Korean cooking at its best. It does not have flashy signage, overly designed interior decor or a big menu to impress but a list of comprises of commonly seen and unusual Korean delicacies. The classics are available with a selection of meats done in various ways (hot pot, grills, fried or soup)... reasonably priced with sizable serving portion (and good quality).

Though the country of origin is not from Korea, it is said to serve some of the best Korean-influenced Chickens ever. Its earlier entrance to Penang stirred up a wave amongst Chicken lovers. The Chicken specialist offers up quite a variety... menu favorites are the signature Chicken types (Soy Garlic or Hot or Mixed), Burgers, Rice or healthier options like Salad. 4FINGERS Crispy Chicken is a Muslim-friendly restaurant.

Started in Singapore, the Korean Fried Chicken chain has gone mainstream in countries like Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Australia. The brand has earned good reputations over the years, though the country of origin is not from Korea, it is said to serve some of the best Korean-influenced Fried Chickens ever. Its entrance into Penang is a big deal, at least to the Fried Chicken devotees... making a great contender for KyoChon. The chain offers up quite a bit of poultry-based dishes... from the high-praise Fried Chicken to Burgers, Chicken Rice or healthier options like Salad but we can conclude that most dishes revolve around Fried Chicken. The place is Muslim-friendly but that being said, no alcohols are served (sorry Beer lovers!). You can now find 4Fingers at the Ground Floor of Gurney Paragon Mall (previously Caffe Bene), right next to Cho Dong Jib Korean Restaurant.
