📰 Why Covid-19 Is Spreading Again: Fatigue, Colder Weather, Eased Restrictions
Cases have ebbed in Sunbelt states like Arizona but have gone up throughout parts of U.S.
New coronavirus cases hit their highest level since mid-August on Wednesday, a sign of a fall surge predicted by public-health officials.
For the eighth time since October began, newly reported cases nationally ticked above 50,000, fueled by simmering outbreaks in every region of the country.
For the past week, the seven-day average of new cases was outpacing the 14-day average in more than 40 states and Washington, D.C., according to a Wall Street Journal analysis of Johns Hopkins University figures. When the seven-day average is higher than the 14-day average, it suggests cases are rising.
hit their highest level 達到最高的水平,a fall surge 秋天激增,the seven-day average 七天平均數,the 14-day average 14天平均數都是很管用的用語。
Hospitalizations also have swelled across the U.S. in recent weeks, though deaths haven’t yet surged. Deaths often lag behind new cases and hospitalizations, given the duration of the disease. The seven-day average of daily deaths attributed to Covid-19 has been hovering around 700 for about three weeks, down from around 1,000 two months ago.
The U.S. has more fatalities than any other country in the world—more than 217,600 since the pandemic began. But it doesn’t have the highest percentage of cases that are fatal. About 2.7% of reported cases in the U.S. have been fatal, according to data from Johns Hopkins. That figure has declined in recent months as treatments have improved and testing has expanded, allowing more mild and asymptomatic cases to be detected. Since the summer, younger people have made up a growing share of new U.S. cases.
A number of factors are likely contributing to the rise, some epidemiologists and public-health researchers said. The virus has spread to more rural counties and other communities, exposing vulnerable populations that hadn’t yet experienced it significantly and who are now reacting instead of taking steps to prevent the virus, public-health researchers said.
Some people have grown tired of restrictions on their movements and might be taking more risks than they did in the spring, they said. Mixed and inconsistent messaging from federal and local officials over preventive measures has sowed confusion and complacency. Some local governments have eased restrictions on businesses and requirements to wear masks. Meanwhile, college students returned to campuses, leading to some spreading of the virus, and the onset of cooler weather has led many Americans indoors, where the virus is more transmittable, the public-health researchers said.
大學生回到校園 (college students return to campuses) 和更涼快的天氣開始 (the onset of cooler weather)也是原因。

Dear Sir/ Madam,
With nearing X years of successful experience in the wealth management industry, I am firmly in the belief that the time is ripe for me to move on to what is considered one of the largest XXX in Hong Kong. I am confident that I possess the qualities necessary to thrive at such an outstanding company and in particular, become a valuable prospect as investment analyst in the Investment Department.
My investment journey as an analyst at fund distribution platforms, hedged funds and wealth management companies have honed my Top-down and Bottom-up approach as well as having personal investment conviction. Indeed, I believe the latter strength is the key to my achievement thus far – I take pride in being independent-minded, which is becoming increasingly important in this ever-expanding complex financial market. The valuable experience at XXX helped me to develop my personal market belief through mutual funds training and provided me a hands-on training in Bloomberg Terminal ( BBG).
From there, notwithstanding a tempting offer from XXX, my intention to move on to bigger and better things in mutual funds and hedge funds led me to secure a precious experience at XXX as XXX, which has provided me a perspective in practical option-trading strategies and the operational side of running a hedged fund. Throughout my time at the company, various stocks were identified and individuals’ fair value via Discount Cashflow model ( DCF ) were calculated. I provided constant economic updates to the Portfolio manager. My particularly proud achievement was to have successfully predicted that XXX would plummet significantly, a full week before it actually happened when no one in Hong Kong saw the same. This is due to my wide-than-usual horizon in terms of the information platforms I would survey. I am uniquely adept at looking into mainstream and niche mainland financial websites and other channels for the most updated information as well as gossips. This is the source of my being able to often come up with contrarian views. On the operation side of XXX, I was also responsible for calculating daily NAV to the portfolio manager.
Lastly, in my current job, being part of the investment team, my duty is to oversee the company’s XXX and set up investment outlook to our XXX. Timely reports and Top-down analysis on various economies were produced to the investment team committee and sales. Last year, I was honoured to play a notable role in securing a XXX return for the portfolio, beating the Hang Seng Index by XXX, and was rewarded to speak as the company’s sole representative on behalf of the research team at XXX 2019, which I greatly enjoyed. Finally, I personally boosted the client base by XXX, a rate well above average in the space of X months.
I look forward to having further discussions with you in an interview. Please contact me at xxx@gmail.com or at +852xxxxxxxx if you have any further enquiries about my academic background and work experience. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Yours faithfully,
XXX

✔︎ 對話 A
Momofuku
Irving Farm New York
男:In the meantime (同時間), just to make ends meet (為了讓收支平衡), I was also (like) doing some part-time jobs at the same time (同時間).
男:"You really need to pursue your passion (n.) you know, do something you really love and feel passionate (a.) about."
It depends on what aspects you're looking at. .......(三十秒後) I think it depends on what aspects of engineering you are drawn to.
對話 A:
男 1: "She studies....she is doing like drawing..."
Sorry, I'm ranting again. So what was the question again?
So "going back to" the training thing, I was wondering...
✔︎ 特色 4: 比寫作更不確切的用字 ,像是大量 thing、stuff、and all that、this and that 等字的使用。
對話 A:
I was always interested in architecture and all that (and all that = 之類的)
She's started doing freelance stuff in interior design.
對話 B:
女:
Going back to the training thing...
Going back to the training program (寫作)
有些語塊只會給結構 (the more...the more...越~越) 叫做「結構語塊」,有些會給實質內容,像是搭配詞 (get an internship、carry out a project) 或是片語 (in the first place、nine times out of ten)。
對話 A:
I was always kind of involved in this and that...
➠ this and that 的意思就是 several different things
對話 B:
男:
Chances are you are gonna intern for a great while.
➠ 不管是 Chances are S+V (很有機會) 還是 for a great while (好一段時間) 都是語塊。
男:When it comes to engineering, it depends on what aspects you're looking at.
When it comes to...
男:The more you learn about it, the more you understand its complexity.
The more...the more
