Northwest's Salmon Population May Be Running Out of Time
A Washington state report put it bluntly ( ): Because of the devastating ( ) effects of climate change and deteriorating ( ) habitats ( ), several species of salmon in the Pacific Northwest are “on the brink of ( ) extinction ( ).”
Of the 14 species of salmon and steelhead trout in Washington state that have been deemed ( ) endangered ( ) and are protected under the Endangered Species Act, 10 are lagging ( ) recovery goals, and five are considered “in crisis,” according to the 2020 State of Salmon in Watersheds report.
“Time is running out,” said the report, which is produced every other year ( ) by the Washington state Recreation and Conservation Office. “The climate is changing, rivers are warming, habitat is diminishing ( ), and the natural systems that support salmon in the Pacific Northwest need help now more than ever.”
Researchers say recovery efforts — involving state and federal agencies, Native American tribes, local conservation groups and others — have helped slow the decline of some salmon populations. The report found that two species — the Hood Canal summer chum and Snake River fall chinook — were approaching ( ) their recovery goals. It also noted that no new salmon species had been added to the endangered list since 2007.
“We are at least treading water,” said Kaleen Cottingham, director of the Washington state Recreation and Conservation Office. “We have not, however, seen the kind of progress ( ) that we had hoped for.”
With the effects of climate change expected to accelerate ( ), researchers said that more must be done to prevent further population decline and the possible extinction of some species.
Salmon play a vital ( ) role in the environment, economy and culture of the Pacific Northwest. At least 138 species depend on salmon for their food in some way. Salmon support an estimated ( ) 16,000 jobs in the fishing industry, and they are a draw ( ) for tourists.
Before the 20th century, an estimated 10 million to 16 million adult salmon and steelhead trout returned annually to the Columbia River system. The current return of wild fish is 2% of that.
One of the largest factors inhibiting salmon recovery is habitat loss. A growing human population has led to development along the shoreline and the addition of bulkheads, or sea walls, that encroach ( ) on beaches where salmon generally find insects and other food. More pavement ( ) and hard surfaces have contributed to an increase in toxic stormwater runoff ( ) that pollutes Puget Sound.

"My husband and I had been having trouble deciding whether we wanted kids or not. Growing up an only child, the thought of having children didn’t interest me much. But something changed when I turned thirty and after months of discussion, my husband and I decided to leave the decision in God’s hands.
Soon after, I became pregnant with our beautiful baby girl, Sierra. It was scary when we learned we were about to become parents, but I now know God doesn’t give us more than we can handle.
A few years later, however, I found myself confiding in another man and seeking the emotional connection I was no longer receiving from my husband. When I finally told my husband about this, we began going to couples therapy.
During this time, we came across Joseph Prince’s program in which he shared a testimony about a marriage that was restored through God’s grace. We knew it wasn’t by chance we stumbled upon this. We began watching Joseph’s sermons on a regular basis and found that every message spoke to our situations.
I have since given my life to Jesus and my marriage is now better than ever! My husband and I have also been blessed with twin boys. I now know God is working in my life and I hope to continue growing in His loving grace. Thank you, Pastor Prince!"

Landing speech 2021/6/6

Thank you. I’m so honored to be here today. And we are here to underscore the bipartisan support for Taiwan and the strength of our partnership. This pandemic has been a global challenge and too many of us have lost loved ones and have their livelihoods taken away. And for the past year and half, we’ve seen how covid-19 knows no borders. It spreads quickly and without hesitation. And it doesn’t care about race, religion, or political preferences. Even if some nations seek to use the response to covid-19 to coerce others. We are here as friends, because we know that Taiwan is experiencing a challenging time right now. Which is why it’s especially important for the three of us to be here in a bipartisan way. Friends come to each other’s aid. The Biden administration has announced its framework of showing at least 80 million vaccines, uh, US vaccine doses globally and the plan is for the first 25 million doses. After several weeks of conversations between each of the three of us, and the White House officials, I am please to say that Taiwan will receiving 750,000 doses of the vaccines as part of the first bunch of doses. It was critical for United States that Taiwan be included in the first group to receive vaccines because we recognize your urgent need and we value this partnership. We’ll be meeting Taiwan’s leadership this morning to better understand Taiwan’s needs and carry those messages back to Washington. I know in the days ahead that Biden Administration will work to make sure Taiwan receives its shipment in as safe and effective its vaccines as soon as possible. This helps save lives and brings us closer to ending this pandemic once and for all.
Because ending this pandemic means that all of us in international community must work together to get shot in the arms of as many people as possible because truly ending this pandemic means ending it everywhere. And it also reflects our gratitude to Taiwan’s support for the American people in our time of need. In the early days of the pandemic, Taiwan came to our aid, with supply of PPE and other donations that help to save American lives. And on behalf of American people, we want to thank you for that. This is yet another example of how democracies work together to help one another.
You know I especially wanna be here because my family, most of you may know, my father’s family has served in the American military going back to the revolution, fighting for freedom and democracy. But most of you don’t know that my mother’s family is actually from Chaochiu from Guangdong who walked out of China seeking freedom to escape communism. And my mother was born in Thailand in the early 1940s. So it’s especially important to me to be here to support another democracy in the region. My family and I know the price of freedom. And I am here to tell you, that the United States will not let you stand alone. We will be by your side to make sure the people of Taiwan have what they need to get to the other side of this pandemic and beyond, Thank you.

Not to Be "Trumpt" Down but Make Trump Down——To Dear American Brothers and Sisters
My dear American friends,
as Nancy Pelosi called the protests in Hong Kong last year “a beautiful sight to behold,”
you should be proud that you are giving more and more beautiful sights throughout your country,
in Minneapolis, Los Angles, New York, Washington D.C., and every part where people with any sense of justice live,
which makes America great and beautiful again.
However, these are facing a fatal crisis now.
You are going to be "Trumpt" down for your disobedience to his "American value,"
which claims that all men are born equal but some are more equal than others.
While the protesters in Hong Kong and Taiwan could break into the legislative building successfully with the matirial and spiritual support from your government,
you American people should only be “greeted” with the most vicious dog and most ominous weapons from Trump.
While he told you that he is going to make America great again,
he killed 100 thousand American people first for his incompetence in pandemic prevention,
mostly of whom are laboring-class.
While your country usually claims its duty to "free" other peoples,
it seems to be built only for the white and rich,
repressing you Amercan people with racism and capitalism
and making more and more "George Floyds" who can't breathe anytime.
Therefore, the beautiful sights in your country were only kept for three days.
Then the police fire and the military force are destroying them.
My dear American brothers and sisters!
My dear African Americans, Chinses Americans, Latin Americans, Asian Americans, and all Americans of all races!
All human beings who behold justice stand with you!
A single spark can start a prairie fire!
So rise up for your own liberty and dignity!
Unite togethet to beat racism in any form!
It's time for you to make the White House not only for the white and the Wall Steet!
It's time for you to make America great and beautiful indeed!
It's time for you not to be "Trumpt" down but make Trump down!

The Philadelphia 76ers played such dismal defence against the second-worst team in the NBA that even reformed bad boy Allen Iverson chimed in about the need for practice time.
"Any practice would be good right now," said Iverson, who scored 41 points as the Philadelphia 76ers held off the Washington Wizards 107-102 Friday night. "If we get our chemistry together, we'll be OK."
The Sixers have had very little practice time since the all-star break, which has been especially evident as they try to incorporate Dikembe Mutombo, acquired a week ago from Atlanta.
Mutombo had 16 rebounds and 14 points, including three key free throws in the final minute after Washington tied the game twice in the fourth quarter and closed to 102-100 with 1:19 left.
Coach Larry Brown wasn't too critical of his team, but said he looked forward to four days of practice before Wednesday night's home game against New Jersey.
"Guys have been either sick or hurt," Brown said. "Tomorrow we will walk through some stuff and hopefully iron some things out. I think that it will be helpful for us."
Richard Hamilton scored a career-high 34 points for Washington, which lost its sixth in a row. Mitch Richmond and Courtney Alexander added 17 points each.
The Sixers led by as many as 16 in the third quarter but struggled with poor shooting, bad passes and turnovers.
The crowd turned on the 76ers midway through the fourth, booing as Matt Geiger replaced Mutombo and fouled Christian Laettner, who hit both free throws during a 12-2 run. More boos followed when Hamilton drove for a layup with 8:56 left to tie the game at 86-86, the first time the game was tied since early in the second quarter.
Iverson kept the Sixers in the game, scoring all his team's points for the first seven minutes and making all but one of the Sixers' fourth-quarter field goals. It was Iverson's 15th game this season scoring 40 or more points.
"They shot very well and we made some mistakes down the stretch," said Mutombo, who had three of the team's 14 turnovers. "They had very good views of the basket."
The Wizards closed to 102-100 after a three-pointer by Alexander with 1:50 left.
The Sixers scored nine of their final 14 points on foul shots. Mutombo made one of two free throws with 51 seconds left after Laettner was called for an offensive foul. Mutombo hit both foul shots 15 seconds later after Laettner missed a layup.
"I was proud of the fact that we fought back to put ourselves in a position where we had a chance to win the game," Wizards coach Leonard Hamilton said.
Snow had 15 points and 11 assists, notching his first double-double since returning Feb. 13 from ankle surgery. Snow scored in double figures 11 of 15 games before going on the injured list Dec. 9, but averaged just over five points in the nine games he's been back.
