Let Jesus Be Your Rearguard
“Then your light will break out as the morning, and your healing will appear quickly; then your righteousness shall go before you; and Yahweh’s glory will be your rear guard.” (Isaiah 58:8 WEB)
When Jesus is your rear guard, it means that you don’t have to be afraid that your past sins are catching up to you to ruin your life.
You may make mistakes, but you are mercifully allowed to learn from them without being destroyed by the negative consequences.
I ever made a big mistake for an extended period of time, but I repented of it when I could take it no longer.
Soon after, others who were making the same mistake were affected by a wave of negative backlash, but I was graciously protected from it—I had obeyed the Holy Spirit’s promptings and escaped unscathed just in time.
When Jesus is your rear guard, it means that you are also protected from traitorous people who pretend to be your friend. They may form weapons against you, but those weapons won’t prosper against you because Jesus is looking out for you.
When Jesus is your rear guard, it means that you can confidently walk forward into a bright future. The path of the righteous shines brighter and brighter.
If Jesus is protecting you from behind, then what about your front? Your righteousness which you received from Him clears the path for you.
Because you are righteous in Christ, you enjoy favor with God and He’s able to have many opportunities to make your path smooth and filled with many blessings.
Traps lying in wait for you are dismantled and enemies setting up ambushes are scattered before you even get there. Your gift of righteousness clears the path.
Therefore don’t be afraid of your past nor be worried about your future. You are protected both ways. Go ahead, walk by faith, knowing that Jesus has got you surrounded by favor like a shield, amen!
