The war-torn Afghanistan was once peaceful where women could freely roam(漫步;遊蕩) around the streets in dresses. Afghanistan as seen in William Podlich's photographs is almost unrecognizable(無法辨認的).
📌 飽受戰爭蹂躪的阿富汗曾經是和平的，女性可以穿著裙子在街上自由漫步。在威廉·波德利希 (William Podlich) 的照片中看到的阿富汗幾乎無法辨認。
The Taliban emerged(出現) in 1994 around the southern Afghan city of Kandahar. It originally drew members from so-called “mujahideen” fighters who, with support from the United States, repelled(擊退) Soviet forces in the 1980s.
📌 1994 年，塔利班在阿富汗南部城市坎大哈附近出現。它最初吸引了所謂的“聖戰者”戰士的成員，他們在美國的支持下於 1980 年代擊退了蘇聯軍隊。
Within the space of two years, the Taliban had gained sole control over most of the country, proclaiming(宣布) an Islamic emirate(酋長國) in 1996 with a harsh interpretation(詮釋) of Islamic law. From 1996 to 2001, the Taliban enforced a strict version of Sharia law. Women were predominantly(佔優勢地) barred from working or studying, and were confined to their homes unless accompanied by a male guardian(監護人).

The US invaded Afghanistan after the 9/11 attacks(攻擊), which had been planned and carried out by Osama bin Laden’s al-Qaida while it was sheltering(避難) under Taliban rule.

A turbulent journey of a girl travelling across the globe with high hopes & aspirations to seek life to it's fullest only for her dreams to be short lived and forced her to be confined indoors due to the pandemic which then restricted her to live normally again especially when there is no tell when the outbreak will subside. This music video is an invitation to come along on a rollercoaster ride of emotion that enriches the concept of life. A narrative created for the Carmarthen Bay Film Festival.
Personally, this is the most raw piece of filmmaking I have ever done because you will see the happiest and lowest I have ever been in my life. It was my privilege to share this story with you especially in the midst of this historic mark that affected the whole world. When I was editing this for the first time, I literally took 2 hours just to get myself together and not break down. This was an ongoing process till today (I'm much better now, don't worry hehe)
Initially the narrative for Better Half was supposed to be a love story that speaks on the levels of how complicated a relationship can be and to understand the depth of love, better. However, I had to scratch that idea out because my actors and my team had to go our separate ways due to the virus outbreak and social distancing.
Although the process went downhill, I think Better Half was told in it's best version now and I am so proud how it was constructed. I hope this music video gives some sort of inspiration to all of you that even though life will knock you down in the most unimaginable way possible, there is still light at the end of the tunnel. We just need to be brave to find it.

Topic: To abort or not to abort – making difficult choices alone
Some pregnant women are so conflicted about abortion that they don’t even talk about it with their own mother.
Almost half of all pregnancies are unplanned. Between 10-20% of women are still uncertain about whether they should have an abortion when they come in for the procedure.
Some don’t even bring it up with the man they’d become pregnant by.
“Everyone has an opinion about abortion, but for the women who were in this situation, figuring out what was right and wrong proved to be very complex”
I speak to Farah about this.
