CheckCheckCin:夏季五行屬火,所以在酷熱天氣下,就算如常飲食都容易「上火」,若加上熬夜、飲酒、多吃兩塊薯片,或者壓力大、曝曬過後或休息不足,第二天就可能出現喉嚨痛、口乾、口臭、大便偏硬甚至發燒等偏熱症狀。此時可適量進食一些清淡偏涼性的水果,例如火龍果、西瓜、或屬平性的蘋果。飲用具清熱作用的茶療,如竹蔗茅根紅蘿蔔水、粟米鬚茶、酸梅湯等。要謹記避免進食火鍋、燒烤、煎炸油膩、屬性偏溫熱的食物。如症狀持續,宜諮詢註冊中醫師治理。
竹蔗茅根紅蘿蔔水
功效:清熱健脾祛濕,適合身體有偏熱症狀如口臭、頭瘡、喉嚨痛、出痱滋等。
材料:紅蘿蔔2根、竹蔗4節、茅根300克、生薏米30克
做法:所有材料洗淨備用。紅蘿蔔、竹蔗去皮切成細件,茅根剪短。將所有材料加入約1500毫升水,武火煮至水滾,改文火煮約40分鐘,加入適量冰糖即可。

Getting sore throat all the time during summer?
“I have not had any deep fried foods lately, but my throat hurts all the time. Is this a common issue during summer?”
CheckCheckCin: Despite having normal diets, we might still end up with excessive heat when exposed to the hot summer weather.
The condition might get worse when we stay up late, consume alcohol, eat junk food, feel stressed, have lack of rest, and are exposed to the scorching sun. Heat-related symptoms such as sore throat, dry mouth, bad oral odor, hard stools, and even fever might develop.
We can consume fruits that are slightly cool in nature. For instance, dragon fruit and watermelon. We can also have apples, which is mild in nature. Drinking herbal teas such as corn silk tea, sour plum soup, and juice made from bamboo cane, cogongrass, and red carrot can also clear heat.
Avoid hotpot, barbecue, deep fried and greasy foods, or any foods that are warm in nature. If the condition persists, consult registered and licensed Chinese physicians.
Sugar cane water with carrot and chine
Effects: clears heat, dispels dampness and strengthens the spleen. Suitable for those with heat-related symptoms such as odorous breath, pimple on the scalp, sore throat, and canker sores.
Ingredients: 2 carrots, 4 sugar canes, 300g chine, 30g coix seed
Preparation: rinse all ingredients thoroughly. Peel sugar cane and carrot and cut into pieces. Cut chine into short pieces. Combine all ingredients into approximately 1500ml of water and cook on high heat until boiling. Turn to low heat and simmer for 40 mins. Add rock sugar to taste.

竹蔗茅根清熱利小便
相比起冬天,夏天要上廁所小便的次數相對減少,這是因為天氣熱令出汗量增加,部份身體水份已隨汗液排出,所以小便次數減少屬正常現象。但如果你發現小便次數不但減少,而且尿液顏色變黃、混濁、排尿感覺不暢順,甚至有灼熱或刺痛感,身體就有可能受濕熱影響,宜適量飲用有清熱利尿功效的湯水,紓緩小便短赤的症狀。竹蔗、茅根是常見的清熱配搭食材,兩者均性寒,竹蔗清熱生津,茅根清熱利尿,不少街市菜檔更會配搭馬蹄、粟米等材料方便包出售,惟注意脾胃虛寒、便溏腹瀉者不宜飲用此湯。
清熱利尿湯水小貼士:
適當地添加清熱利尿功效的食材如冬瓜、荷葉、粟米鬚等。
老黃瓜竹蔗茅根素湯
功效:清熱止渴利尿,紓緩眼乾、口乾、尿少尿痛等熱病症狀。
材料:老黃瓜1根、粟米連鬚2根、紅蘿蔔1根、竹蔗1紮、新鮮茅根80克、赤小豆30克、洋薏米30克、 小米1/4杯
做法:
1. 所有材料洗淨,老黃瓜去籽連皮切塊、竹蔗連皮切塊,紅蘿蔔去皮切塊、粟米去衣連鬚切段備用。
2. 鍋中加入2500毫升水,放入全部材料,武火煮至水滾,調文火煮1小時,最後下鹽調味即可。

Sugar cane and couch grass root to clear heat and promote diuresis
You may be urinating less during the summer compared to winter. This happens because you sweat more in the hot weather, so a portion of the body fluid has been discharged with sweat. But if you find that the frequency of urinations not only decreases, but the urine color is turning yellow, becoming murky, and urine flow seems incomplete and not smooth. You might even experience a burning or tingling sensation during urination, this could mean your body may be affected by dampness and heat. It is better to have soup to clear heat and promote diuresis in moderation to relieve scanty urination. Sugar cane and couch grass root are used as a common combination to clear heat. They are both cold in nature and can clear heat. Sugar cane can also promote fluid production while couch grass root can promote diuresis. In the wet market, water chestnuts and corn will also be packed in an ingredient pack. Note this is not suitable for those with asthenic spleen and stomach, loose stool and diarrhea.
Tips for soup to clear heat and promote diuresis:
Appropriately add in ingredients such as winter melon, lotus leaf, corn silk.
Old cucumber soup with sugar cane and couch grass root
Effects: Clears heat, relieves thirst, promotes diuresis, can relieve heat-related symptoms such as dry eyes, dry mouth, low urine output with pain.
Ingredients: 1 old cucumber, 2 corn with silk, 1 carrot, a bunch of sugar cane, 80g fresh couch grass root, 30g rice bean, 30g pearl barley, ¼ cup of millet
Preparation:
1. Rinse all ingredients thoroughly. Core old cucumber and cut into pieces (keep the peel), cut sugar cane into pieces (keep the peel), peel corn, keep silk and cut into pieces.
2. Combine all ingredients with 2500ml of water in a pot and cook on high heat until boiling. Turn to low heat and simmer for 1 hour. Add salt to taste.
