The landmark Tokyo Tower lit up with messages from April 27 to May 2 to express gratitude to medical staff working to protect the nation from the novel coronavirus.
On Monday evening, Tokyo Tower displays heartwarming messages to the heroes that are safeguarding the health and safety of all citizens, including doctors, nurses, healthcare workers and many other contributors on the frontline. The giant message “ARIGATO”, which means thank you in Japanese, will run from 7:00 pm to 12:00 am on Monday, and will light-up from sunset until midnight since the second day.
The “thank you from the tower”(#タワーからARIGATO) blue light-up campaign is initiated by All-Japan Tower Association. As all towers and observation deck are temporarily closed from April 8 after Japan declared the state of emergency, the association would like to make use of its light-up system and SNS power to show its support and respect to the medical staff. A total of twenty towers nationwide participated in this campaign, including Sapporo TV Tower, Chiba Port Tower, Kyoto Tower, Fukuoka Tower and Beppu Tower etc. In addition to members of the association, nine famous towers such as Nagoya TV Tower and Yokohama Marin Tower also took part in this meaningful event.
