標題[心得] 台灣為何沒有Strategic Thinking?

一直想寫些文章分享回饋, 決定在Tech_Job是覺得族群可能會比較接近
先說我背景, 跨領域, 管顧加財務分析, 在矽谷Tech工作過, 也有過管理經驗
這些都是整理來的實際心得, 不雞湯也不講大道理, 也不經營blog
就是完全的純分享, 找真正背後問題, 實際情況還有怎麼做

那麼就不廢話開始;

一份工作能有價值, 是在於能否藉由策略思考貢獻具體價值
展現在提升KPI, Revenues, Profits上.
但老實說全球版圖在台灣的工作, 只有Sales能夠直接貢獻
其他各種職能幾乎很難藉由策略思考貢獻出價值
充其就是提供例行事務支援罷了, 為何? 以下繼續;






Taiwan is a profit center for most companies

對很多公司來說, 台灣是一個怎麼樣的市場呢?
大多數公司僅以APAC or GC的其中一個BU來看台灣
一個小型的Profit Center而已, 說Center可能還太過, 可能說Unit比較適合
所以直接銷售的業務, 甚至是外勤型的業務團隊(field)才是對價值最有貢獻者
上面也只看這個而已, 其他職務老實說都是其次, 你怎麼做都天花板非常有限
沒有什麼是不可取代的, 門檻會拉那麼高是台灣整體國際觀還有英文水平不如HK, SG
甚至KR, (JP是一個特有的市場), 所以只好都找名校, 但老實說真的不需要
那麼你如何想在非sales體系下, 進入所謂策略思考成為有價值呢?



Well.. numbers.. who cares?

接上, 不管你是任何職務, 你的策略思考如能達到那些書上所寫程度
但你能提出的numbers... 都太小了! 所有的numbers在上面來看都只是擦嘴邊
同樣的你想爭取什麼資源, 改善什麼流程, 做好什麼專案, 全部都需要資源
但公司都在這些small numbers幾乎neglecting台灣, 不管你的東西在對, 在有道理



And then... your numbers are correct?

最讓人吐血的來了, 如果你來了一包'大的', 終於有機會可以證明你的策略與貢獻
這時候會來一個噩夢般的歷史共業. 普遍台灣長期不被重視下, 數字都是有問題的
管數字的Finance在台灣通常被當成作帳員, 報稅員, 甚至是發票專員
因為都在搞系統與數字, 連Finance都這樣了, 那你覺得你的project到時候上檯面時
能夠在唇槍舌戰的strategic meetings不斷被各WW team挑, 贏得尊重插上勝利旗嗎?
面對到WW team資源充足, 數據充足, 還可以說文化故事, 一有不慎就會被tag
除非你真的大包到驚天動地, 就像切入爆扣一樣, 讓客場觀眾都安靜下來



So... your boss?

另一個無法掌控的, 就是你的boss. 工作本身有成績, 跨部也難不倒, 但.. 老闆挺你嗎?
即使你以上都做對了, 你要想的可能不是在會議上怎麼表現, 而是老闆可能會怎麼對你了
要知道老闆也只是領薪水的, 他也在想他的升遷, credit, 還有履歷

就算碰到好老闆, 又有一個你無法控制的問題, 那就是老闆任期能多長?
回到傳統一點的觀念, 穩定度, 很多人常要求下面穩定
但實際上最不穩定的就是boss. Boss們之間的異動跳槽是高於staff
他們要的只是你能不能生一包給他們, 其實他們並不在乎這些
但他們也沒有惡心, 所以一件事明明是好事, 卻會一直發生各種中斷
最糟的是.. 哪天有個人有了資源, 然後把這件事搶過去做
就說你之前怎麼都沒改善? 然後挺你的老闆也走了
就變成都是你的錯, 我來解決這個問題, 我升官, 你負責

那如果老闆是老外呢? 通常老外是取決於他有沒有壓碼在這
If not, you just a name



Do you have time?

最最最重要的是, 你有好後台, 好系統, 好數字, 口才又好, 老闆又挺
但是你有時間嗎? 台灣都是被當一個小BU, 所以你會被滿滿的例行task塞滿
滿到你放棄理想, 放棄正面思考, 還有策略思考, 最後你只想休假, 只想做例行
如果自己是老闆, 就變成你以前討厭的那種老闆, 錯都是別人的錯, 有大包的我來搶
找人交代HR要高學歷要血統只是漂亮, 但真的聰明無法控制的, 謝謝
所以不管你是staff or boss, 這樣搞說不定升還好過一點, 請不要自以為
如此循環下, 台灣自然很難出的了大格局人才
區域型的大Boss, 甚至是總部Boss都很少台灣人, 有也是ABC
不是人家不升你, 而是台灣就是上不去

台灣即使出一個Hero, 也會被拉下來, 也並不是Hero不好
而一堆討厭的主管與老外, 也只是歷史經驗告訴他們做出保守決策

有天賦40歲以下熱血青年, 如對自己能力與成績有自信
卡關時要懂得抽離思考, 別人是怎麼看台灣人的
要嘛在策略上做調整, 要嘛幹就要幹到底
把以上這些點都打掉, 我還是有機會上去的
