Being an island surrounded by waters, Penang is home to many beach-front restaurants with spectacular sea view. Some restaurants are off the beaten path but Aroi Mak is one of them that you can find right smack in town. It's hard to miss the place with its gigantic signage and can be found right next to the bustling Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah (right opposite to Northam Hotel Penang). The building was occupied as some Dim Sum restaurant earlier but Aroi Mak is a completely new restaurant under a different management (opened since May 2019). Aside from the sea view and the fresh ocean breeze, the place offers affordable but authentic Southern Thai food experience, backed with fresh Seafood supplies (with most dishes priced between RM 20- RM 30). Helmed by a Thai head Chef with more than 25 years of kitchen experience, expect the menu to come with chock-full of Thai delights. With a huge space that can accommodate more than 50 tables, the place is great for occasions, family-friendly dinners or any casual meals. Set lunch menu is also available on weekdays and Aroi Mak is also starting to be made available on Deliveryeat platform.

An example of a good, good father. Woke up to this new kitchen set all fixed. @boon10 stayed up late into the night to fix this while @tylerjayng and I were sound asleep, and his reason is that he wants Tyler to be surprised when he wakes up first thing in the morning. I’m always inspired to be a better parent when I see the love that he has for our son.

So til we’re able to give Tyler his own playroom (no space at home!), cozy corners around the house will do for now. PS: And with this kitchen set our home really looks like a full-on IKEA showroom 😂 #everythingIKEA #truefan
Ingredients
For the Char Siu
500g (1.1 lb) pork (shoulder/thigh/belly/lean)
6-7 cloves of garlic, pounded in to a paste in a mortar and pestle
3 tbsp soy sauce
1 tsp five-spice powder
½ tsp salt (optional)
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp pork/chicken stock
½ tsp ground pepper
For the pork broth
1 kg (2.2 lb) pork bones
1 tsp salt
1 peeled onion
3 liters water
For the greens
1 lettuce, shredded
Herbs: mint, perilla, lemon basil (rau é), coriander, chrysanthemum (tàn ô), bitter mint (rau đắng), fish mint (diếp cá) etc.
500g (1.1 lb) bean sprouts, blanched
1 kg Cao Lau (or Soba or Egg Noodle)
Cao Lau crackers
