"I've always been active and super outgoing since I was young. People knew me as this happy and confident person. But they had no idea what was really going on.
Every time I came home from school and removed my clothes, I was reminded that I had this. I was diagnosed with psoriasis at the age of 14. But nobody knew. They had no idea what I was going through. All the treatments and medication. All the pain. The itch. The burns. The bleeding. All the times that I was crying on the floor because it was the only way I could comfort myself.
Last year I got it on my forehead. That really affected me because I couldn’t cover up anymore. My energy was alarmingly low. I was on the verge of depression. My family and friends started noticing that something was wrong. That's when I realised that I had to make a change. When you can’t get your confidence from the outside, you have to learn how to get it from somewhere else. I had to redefine myself by searching within. It was a very challenging process. It required me to critically evaluate myself in so many ways.
I got tired of pretending to be someone else. I did that for the past 10 years. It took me that long to really accept myself and embrace this part of me. Now I want people to see me for who I am. For all my ups and downs. That’s why I started Project Naked and Safe Space.
I wish to create more awareness and conversation about psoriasis and other autoimmune diseases. I want to highlight our struggles and inspire other people going through similar situations. I want them to be proud of surviving through all the hard times. I want them to learn from my sharing and hopefully take a shorter time to achieve self love. Because to me, nothing is more magical than that.”
