也就是說，這些場景大可以同時存在，
構成一副生動的畫面。

可指行軍經過山稜谷地，走上又走下，

也可指宗教和道德意味上的上升與下降，

板上已經有人說過了，
這段文字是 Roger The Hat樂團裡的成員
根據 "When was the last time you thumped somebody?"
"你最近一次痛打過人，是在何時?" 一題，
所作的回答。
值得說明的是，
上述 wiki 條目的 Talk 裡，
有列出這段口述前面，還有一段聽不到的句子，是這樣的：
"(.....'cos the thing is man...when you're drivin' on the road.....
and you get someone who's that rude...)
...well I mean they're gonna kill ya...."
"(.....所以是這樣老兄...當你在路上開著車.....
然後你遇到某個誇張沒禮貌的傢伙...)
...哎我的意思是，他們可是會殺了你...."
所以他說的原來是開車上路，遇到不守規矩的車主來著！
遇到開車的白目，當然要給他一番教訓，
推測應該是攔車下來打一頓，好好恐嚇一下。
但是當然，這段文字之所以被選出來，
有著明確的用意。
可以被解讀是老兵回憶他如何擊斃敵人的經過。
所以經過這樣的轉換，
"good manner" 一字的意思就完全不同，
原指 "開車的白目應該有點禮貌"，
變成 "我殺死敵人的好方法，讓我活下來了"。
最後可以留意，
"sh...short, sharp shock"，
這幾個字壓了"S"的頭韻，
恰巧和戰場上子彈飛過耳邊的聲音相似。

這字源自拳擊比賽的"擊倒、出局"。
可指心情的低落，
或指經濟上的窮困潦倒。
可廣義指稱，戰爭結束後
街上充斥著無所事事的退伍老兵，
一個個變成流浪漢、乞食者。
這種沒救的情形太平常了，
可能是表示一般人的無能為力，
也可能是運氣好的人，替自己找藉口免除責任。

有些什麼，又沒有什麼，
這些"什麼"，指的可以是權力、財富、庇護、食物，
也可以是抽象地指對戰爭的痛苦回憶、死亡的壟罩。
這說的是社會上的 "有者" 與 "無者" 之間的鬥爭。

這兩句較難解讀，可能是在以下幾種情形說出來的：
軍隊對著老百姓說的：軍隊急著出征戰鬥；
走在路上的士兵對著擋路的小孩說的：他們正在行軍，準備作戰；
戰爭結束後，老兵對著關心他的人說的：他無法忘記戰爭的回憶；
"有者"對著"無者"說的：他們對貧困的窮人不屑一顧；
快速運行的社會對著老去的士兵說的：老人已無法適應新的時代。
或者，這是寫作歌詞者正在寫作時，
想到這首描寫戰爭的無助的歌曲還未寫完，亦感到無助；
或是深感對曲中人物的同情，

死去的老人，可能曾是個老兵、老英雄，
而非單純只是個一般的游民。
他當然是名"無者"的一員。
茶與食物是便宜的，
但卻可能因通貨膨脹，害死一個領乾薪的老人。
