Enjoy God-Given Sleep

“Yahweh God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” (Genesis ‭2:7‬ ‭WEB‬)

Our body is very similar to the ground.

Ground must be left to rest for a while in order to maintain its fertility. If you keep overworking it by planting and planting new batches of crops without stopping, the ground will not bear much fruit.

Your body which is made from the dust of the ground needs sufficient rest.

Sometimes you have no choice but to sleep less due to finishing up some work, but when you have nothing important to do, make sure to sleep earlier.

Doing more work does not guarantee better results. Good results come from God’s favor in a situation.

“Unless Yahweh builds the house, they labor in vain who build it. Unless Yahweh watches over the city, the watchman guards it in vain. It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil; for he gives sleep to his loved ones.” (‭‭Psalms‬ ‭127:1-2‬ ‭WEB‬)

Cast your cares to the Lord before you sleep each night, and pray for excellent quality of sleep so that you will wake up refreshed and energetic.

Since Jesus does not sleep nor slumber, He will take the night shift for you.

These things I am saying may seem like common sense, but there is the danger of constantly sacrificing sleep to try and get more things done.

How Biblical Prosperity Looks Like

“But, lest we cause them to stumble, go to the sea, cast a hook, and take up the first fish that comes up. When you have opened its mouth, you will find a stater coin. Take that, and give it to them for me and you.”” ‭‭(Matthew‬ ‭17:27‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

When Jesus was on earth, He didn’t live in a palace, He didn’t own lots of land and He wasn’t considered a rich man. He wasn’t poor or destitute either. He earned a living as a carpenter and owned His own house in Capernaum.

Whenever there was a need, He never lacked. When there was no food in the deserted countryside, He multiplied loaves of bread and fishes. To pay the temple tax, He received a supernatural word of wisdom from His Father that He would send a fish with a coin in its mouth to provide the payment.

This is Biblical prosperity that every believer can experience—to have no lack and always be supplied for every need.

Not every Christian will be a multi-millionaire—there is a special calling for rich believers and that is to be generous givers towards the work of the Gospel.

Notice that God the Father didn’t create a silver coin for Jesus out of thin air. God provides for our needs through legitimate channels—He gives us the power to obtain wealth by giving us creative ideas and knowledge that will result in income if we act on them as led by the Holy Spirit.

God knows where all the ‘fishes with silver coins in their mouths’ are. He can direct them to swim towards you and tell you when to reel them in. This is the special advantage we have as children of God—we have insider info from the all-knowing, all-powerful God.

“When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep, and let down your nets for a catch.” Simon answered him, “Master, we worked all night, and took nothing; but at your word I will let down the net.” When they had done this, they caught a great multitude of fish, and their net was breaking.” ‭‭(Luke‬ ‭5:4-6‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Work harder, no sleep, grind hard, no pain no gain. These are all the world can do because they can only rely on their own fleshly smarts, strength and abilities which are limited by the capabilities of man.

Without God’s favor, you can toil stressfully all night, sacrificing everything in life and still get nothing.

Rely on Jesus—through His Spirit in you, He can guide you what to do and exactly when to do it to haul in the biggest catch. You can tap on His unlimited wisdom and power.

It helps to swim along the river’s powerful current instead of against it—you’ll go further, faster!

Today’s teaching is about how to succeed in your workplace as a child of God.

Stressful toil came as part of the curse upon Adam. This was not the way before he fell.

“To Adam he said, “Because you have listened to your wife’s voice, and ate from the tree, about which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it,’ the ground is cursed for your sake. You will eat from it with much labor all the days of your life. It will yield thorns and thistles to you; and you will eat the herb of the field. By the sweat of your face will you eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken. For you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”” (Genesis‬ ‭3:17-19‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Before that, God had designed for Adam to sow seeds and reap abundant harvests. God gave seeds to Adam, and when Adam planted these seeds, they sprang up quickly and bore fruits.

“God said, “Behold, I have given you every herb yielding seed, which is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree, which bears fruit yielding seed. It will be your food.” (Genesis‬ ‭1:29‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

At that time, the whole earth had a fine mist canopy watering it. This meant that Adam didn’t even have to water the seeds. It was so restful for him.

We have to understand that we have been redeemed through Jesus’ blood. We are not meant to operate under the Adamic curse, but under the redemption we have in Christ.

If you are pushing yourself to work very hard in your job, profession, business, or ministry, in order to increase your results, this is operating by the curse: stressful toil in exchange for little fruits.

Then when your results don’t justify the hard work you’re putting in, you’ll get burnt out and angry at God, questioning why things are not moving well for you.

God has a better way for you to succeed in your workplace.

Whatever you want more of, you can sow the same thing as a seed, as unto the Lord, in order to reap it in a multiplied way.

When the little boy handed his meal of five loaves of bread and two small fishes as unto Jesus, it was multiplied to feed five thousand men (not counting the women and children), and there were twelve baskets full of food left over (John 6:8-13).

Jesus’ blood shed at the cross has made your sowing bear fruitful results. Previously before you were saved, your sowing only produced thorns and thistles. However, now that you are a child of God, you enjoy God’s favor and your sowing is powerfully effective. Sowing and reaping is a principle for the redeemed children of God.

“I thought it necessary therefore to entreat the brothers that they would go before to you, and arrange ahead of time the generous gift that you promised before, that the same might be ready as a matter of generosity, and not of greediness. Remember this: he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly. He who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Let each man give according as he has determined in his heart; not grudgingly, or under compulsion; for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, that you, always having all sufficiency in everything, may abound to every good work. As it is written, “He has scattered abroad, he has given to the poor. His righteousness remains forever.” Now may he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food, supply and multiply your seed for sowing, and increase the fruits of your righteousness; you being enriched in everything to all liberality, which produces through us thanksgiving to God.” (2 Corinthians‬ ‭9:5-11‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

If you want to enjoy multiplied results at work, think of how you can be a blessing to others first. If you want more business deals, see how you can bless others with deals. If you want to enjoy good relationships with your boss and colleagues, see how you can be an encourager, comforter and a good friend to others. If you want to grow your network, see how you can be a person who connects others to the people they need.

Rely on the Holy Spirit to lead you how to do these, in every situation, receiving His wisdom and power to do so.

The way of Kingdom prosperity is giving. The more you give, the more it is multiplied in abundance back to you.

Thanks to Grace, we can expect to receive abundantly above all that we can think or imagine because it is by God’s generosity and not by our limited ability.

Forty One. Just a number? A number in a list?

Or forty one homes ... not houses ... homes. Forty one families. Hundreds of lives.

41 families are all that is left of the once vibrant community of Bukit Jalil Estate. They know they cannot remain. Some of them who remain once worked in the estate.

They have been there for 70-over years. They have laboured and contributed to national development for meagre wages. Many have passed on and to take their places are their children and grandchildren. What they want is fair and equitable compensation for the toil.

For the years of low wages. For their contribution to 53 years of national development.
