On 911, we mourn with those who suffered losses. I knew a few. There're also lessons to be learned.
1) IF hatred and revenge are our first reactions every time our country is attacked, innocent people will suffer. Our first knee-jerk reactions are always representative of who we are. Externally, we would carpet bomb entire countries filled with population that "hates us" (but really, do they all hate us? We're not mind readers here). Internally, we turn our corporate anger on fellow Americans associated with our suffering whether it's South Asian and Middle Eastern people (during 911) or East Asian people (during the pandemic). I believe hatred has been coupled with patriotism as a deadly mix in our country for a long time. It's killing us in our relationship with one another and our relationship with the world. I'm not hopeful that we can get away from that form of patriotism, but get away we must...
2) The best way forward to ensure that we no longer have another 911 is to decouple ourselves from the Middle East. The Middle East is a scope beyond our simple thinking American minds. Many of us don't recognize the long and complex history that dates back all the way to Abraham. Most Christians can't even understand the Old Testament (or even the New Testament), let alone having an informed opinion about the Middle East. In order to decouple, we need to have a collective will to come up with alternative energy by putting more of our national budget on developing such instead of waging more proxy wars to ensure our oil interest.
