Today I’m trying ear candling, which has an ancient history in China and is related to moxibustion. It involves burning a flaming candle with mugwort smoke in and around someone’s ear. (No joke!) It’s based on traditional Chinese medicinal theories about dampness and coldness – the idea is that the moxibustion is supposed to remove these things from the body. This is a crazy treatment and it was truly terrifying, though ultimately harmless. Just please be careful and only do this under the supervision of professionals.
