Knowing that the risk of injuries are real and that it is a struggle just to survive the onslaught from the person standing opposite you, forces a person to find the best in himself. He stands alone in that ring. Just him, the referee, the target and a gameplan.

Having said that, the actual fighting bit is the relatively easy part. The preparation is where it tests the fighter to his limits. Eating right, training twice a day, balancing work, getting enough sleep are pre-requisites. Limiting the water intake the week prior to the battle is torturous. But it doesnt stop there. In search of the smallest percentages between victory and defeat, some training methodologies will even advise you to abstain from sex for ‘strong' legs. As if that isn't enough, personal problems, injuries and illnesses threaten to derail the fighter's plan in the eleventh hour.
Despite all the hellacious conditions that I had to endure leading up to the fight, there is a certain anticipation and anxiety. All that hard work could lead to a glorious moment etched in memories or it could turn into a humiliating ordeal as your loved ones watch on.
I recounted the trials and tribulations that I have survived. I told myself that I have to forget all the problems plaguing me because my problem is standing right in front of me.
When that bell rang, and the euphoria of having my hands raised subsided, I stood there, and knew that someday I will be back again.
