3 years ago I was interviewing Matt Barrie the CEO of Freelancer.com, for my podcast Shoulders of Titans when he shared his advice for starting entrepreneurs.
I learned a lot from that interview, and applied some of his advice to my businesses at the time.
Fast forward to today, revisiting the interview with Matt was quite interesting.
Where I once didn't understand many of the concepts...this time I could speak with Matt on a much higher level.
It was a big wake up call for me to speak so comfortably and naturally about topics that I didn't even know about 3 years ago.
Now, why am I telling you this?
You see, running a business is the most formal experience you’ll have in your entire life, especially for people who are young or fresh out of school or university.
You might be thinking, “should I take the risk to start a business?” when now is the best time in your career to take the risk.
Maybe you’re coming out of university.
Maybe you’re probably broke.
Maybe you don’t have a house.
Maybe you’re unmarried.
Maybe you don’t have a boyfriend or a girlfriend.
What’s the worst thing that could happen 2 years from now if things don’t work out?
You’ll be exactly where you are now: broke.
The downside risk is low because you’re already there.
I believe most people don't know how to make money.
Fewer know how to keep money, and almost no one knows how to multiply it.
You must surround yourself with mentors...not gurus.
And make sure that you're asking the right questions.
Because when you ask the right questions...you get the right answers.
