Với tui, ở yxineFF, có hai điều tui quan tâm lớn: phim Việt Nam nào sẽ có mặt trong hạng mục Tranh giải quốc tế, và những bộ phim nào sẽ có mặt ở hạng mục tranh giải khu vực. Mặc dù các phim ngắn quốc tế thường vượt trội về mặt kỹ thuật và cả cảm xúc, nhưng tui luôn cảm thấy tự hào và xúc động khi xem các phim ngắn Việt Nam. Mỗi năm, khi xem các phim gửi về, điều trăn trở nhất vẫn luôn là "các phim ngắn Việt Nam đã đi đến đâu". Năm nay, các phim tham dự từ Việt Nam đã có sự vượt trội về mặt kỹ thuật làm phim so với những năm trước - hình ảnh đẹp hơn, có đầu tư hơn - nhưng vẫn còn nhiều nhà làm phim loay hoay chưa tìm ra phong cách riêng của mình, cũng như chưa thoát khỏi sự quanh quẩn về nội dung, câu chuyện. Tuy vậy, 11 bộ phim tranh giải Khu Vực cũng phần nào tô điểm bức chân dung về phim ngắn Việt Nam tươi sáng hơn, với sự phong phú về câu chuyện và hình thức thể hiện. Đã có những gương mặt mới xuất hiện, với những tìm tòi sáng tạo, một số phim có phần táo bạo.
Và chính điều này là niềm cảm hứng để tui cứ bị lôi vào làm YxineFF...
Năm nay, YxineFF sẽ mở màn với các phim tranh giải khu vực.

Dành riêng cho các nhà làm phim Việt Nam, mục Tranh giải khu vực của YxineFF 2014 là nơi hội tụ của mười một gương mặt đạo diễn trẻ chủ yếu đến từ Hà Nội và TP. Hồ Chí Minh. Mười một bộ phim truyện thể hiện cho mười một phong cách làm phim trẻ, mang nhiều tham vọng trong cả cách kể chuyện và việc tạo ra dấu ấn ngôn ngữ điện ảnh riêng. Mỗi bộ phim đều đưa ra một câu hỏi về ý nghĩa tồn tại của con người, về bản chất của sự thay đổi trong cuộc sống. Mỗi nhà làm phim sử dụng một phong cách khác nhau để thể hiện thông điệp đó: chậm rãi, ngọt ngào như Hạt Cam và Con Mèo Vàng Không Tuổi, Sắc Màu Dịu Êm, Bánh Mơ; bí ẩn như Phía Sau Cửa Sổ, Ngày sinh nhật, M.O.7; căng thẳng và dằn vặt như Thoát, Selfportrait hay đầy tính thử nghiệm như Saigon Gangster, Đồng Điệu. Tất cả tạo nên một bức tranh đầy tiềm năng của phim ngắn Việt Nam.

YxineFF 2014 opens with Local in Competition short films.
Dedicated to Vietnamese filmmakers, Local Competition of YxineFF 2014 is a collection of 11 faces of young directors mainly from Hanoi and HCMC. Eleven fictions stand for 11 fresh styles of filmmaking, ambitious in both storytelling and creating their own cinematic language. Each of these films raises a question about the meaning of human existence, about the ever-changing nature of life. Each filmmaker uses a different style to convey that message: slow and sweet like The Cat and the Orange Seeds, Soft Colours, Dream Puff; mysterious like Behind the Window, Birthday, M.O.7; tense and tormented like Escape, Self-portrait or experimental like Saigon Gangster, In Rythms. All of them make a potential scene of Vietnamese short films.
Vietnamese and international audience can watch films of YxineFF 2014 online from 20h (UTC+7) 19th September 2014 at www.yxineff.com.
