Have you ever had a bitter taste in the mouth after waking up? If it comes with other accompanying symptoms such as feeling thirsty but do not want to drink water, sticky feeling in the oral cavity, and yellow urine or urine retention, then your body is experiencing the damp heat condition.
Individuals who binge eat, those who indulge in raw, cold, spicy, and sweet food and alcoholic drinks, and people who have the phlegm-dampness body constitution will develop damp heat symptoms more easily. The combination of dampness and heat in the spleen and stomach can stagnate the circulation of the qi, and this is what causes dryness and bitterness in the mouth.
We cannot solve this problem even by drinking a lot of water. The most effective way to relieve the symptoms is to clear heat and dispel dampness from the body.
Watercress is one of the common vegetables during winter and spring. From the perspective of Chinese Medicine, watercress is cool in nature, and it can clear heat and moisten the lungs. It is suitable for individuals to consume when they feel heaty. Some of the common symptoms are dry mouth, bitter taste in the mouth, constipation, and acne. Do note that watercress is an aquatic plant, so leeches might hide in between the leaves. Before cooking them, be sure to wash and submerge them in salted water several times first.
Tip on the ingredients: Monkey head mushroom is mild in nature, can strengthen the spleen and stomach and aid digestion. It is suitable for those with abdominal bloating, stomach pain, burping, acid reflux, chronic gastritis, stomach and duodenal ulcers, and patients with stomach cancer.

[VIDEO] Taiwan man stuck in Hubei with no medicine
Taiwan evacuated the Taiwanese passengers from the Diamond Princess on February 21, there have been growing calls from many of the nearly 1,000 Taiwanese nationals stuck in China's Hubei Province, the epicenter of the novel coronavirus epidemic, for Taiwan's government to bring them home also. The entire province has been locked down as the Chinese authorities try to stop the spread of the virus, so no one can leave freely, unless they are non-Chinese citizens and can be evacuated on chartered flights. Taiwanese make up perhaps one of the largest groups of non-Chinese nationals there because many of them had traveled to the province to visit their relatives for the Lunar New Year. They have been stranded for over a month while the Chinese and Taiwanese governments argue over what happened with the first and only evacuation flight to Taiwan, and they still seem unable to work out how other evacuations should proceed.
Taiwan’s government insists discussions should be conducted through government-to-government channels, those most at risk should be prioritized, and that no one with the virus should be allowed on the planes.
China’s government has accused Taiwanese authorities of politicizing the evacuations and causing unnecessary delays. It refuses to deal directly with President Tsai Ing-wen’s administration, says there is no need to prioritize evacuees because many flights are available, and it insists no
one had a fever before getting on the first flight and that it checks everyone’s temperature before they are allowed to board the evacuation planes.
Currently, no other flights to Taiwan are planned.
Amid the stalemate, Taiwanese stuck in Hubei have been crying out for help. Here’s a plea from Mr. Chen, who suffers from heart disease and oral cancer and has run out of medication.

“Dentist also need to be on call?”
That’s probably the question I got most during my surgical posting.
We had the opportunity to tag along and learn from the dedicated team of Oral Maxillofacial Surgeons and Dental surgeons at the hospital for the past month, and it has been one of the best learning journey that I wish could’ve been longer.
Assisting and observing how they treat patients who are different from what we usually see in our clinic, really makes me think that they deserve more credit.
And why does dental surgeons need to be on call?
When someone got into a car accident at 2am and got their face badly injured (facial bone fracture/teeth broken off/big cut on the lips or tongue etc), the dental team have to come in to manage immediately.
The specialists also carry out surgeries for oral cancer patient, where major surgeries can go up to 10 hours...and that’s considered short. Sometimes it can go up to 6am next day!
A lot of people don’t seem to know that being a dentist/dental surgeon means that we have to provide comprehensive care to not just the teeth, but the entire oral and facial structures, and most importantly the overall well being of the patient. That includes their mental health, and their ability to carry out daily function at the optimum quality with minimal discomfort.
Of course, what I’ve learned and shared is just the tip of the iceberg. There are so much more to explore in this amazing field, and this is a simple sharing to the general public on what is going on in a dental surgeon’s life. I am still relatively new and have a lot to learn, but if you want to know more about the life of a specialist in the Oral Surgery department, feel free to check out Dr. @firdaus_hariri ! (He’s one of the people who inspired me in my journey in dentistry!)😁
