In the year 2000, Shi junlong, a chinese who believes he has the right of abode in Hong Kong, along with several other chinese, went to the Immigration Department in Wan Chai to hold its staff hostage with knives and arson, to force the government to grant them permanent residency in Hong Kong. 44 staff members were injured with serious burns, and the Head of Immigration Department, Mr. Leung Gam Gwong, plus another staff member, was burnt alive.
Shi junlong, the chief culprit, was repatriated to china in 2005 after spending time in jail, yet was successful in being granted the right to return to Hong Kong in 2010 to become a Hong Kong permanent residence, as well as becoming a board member in "Family Reunion Society", a pro-china organization that assists mainland chinese to immigrate to Hong Kong.
