Axie Infinity ถูกสร้างขึ้นในปี ค.ศ. 2018 โดยบริษัทสตูดิโอเกมสัญชาติเวียดนาม
ชื่อว่า “Sky Mavis” ซึ่งได้รับการสนับสนุนเงินทุนจาก 2 นักธุรกิจชาวอเมริกัน
นั่นก็คือ Mark Cuban มหาเศรษฐีเจ้าของทีมบาสเกตบอล NBA และ Alexis Ohanian ผู้ก่อตั้ง Reddit

Axie Infinity เป็นเกมที่ถูกสร้างและพัฒนาอยู่บนเครือข่ายบล็อกเชน ซึ่งได้รับแรงบันดาลใจการพัฒนารูปแบบการเล่นมาจากโปเกมอนของ Nintendo

ซึ่งรูปแบบที่ว่านั้นก็คือผู้เล่นจะต้องเลี้ยงดู ฝึกฝน จับคู่ผสมพันธุ์มอนสเตอร์ชื่อ “Axie” ไปเรื่อย ๆ แล้วนำไปสู้กับผู้เล่นคนอื่น เพื่อที่จะได้ชิงโทเคนชื่อว่า Smooth Love Potion หรือ SLP

โดย SLP มีความสำคัญสำหรับการเล่นเกมนี้เป็นอย่างมาก เพราะผู้เล่นสามารถนำไปใช้ในการผสมพันธุ์ Axie ใหม่ เพื่ออัปเกรดให้มันมีพลังการต่อสู้มากขึ้น

และเมื่อเราได้ตัวมอนสเตอร์ใหม่ที่มีพลังมากขึ้น
โอกาสที่เราจะเอาชนะการต่อสู้ได้จึงมากขึ้น
นำไปสู่โอกาสที่จะได้รับ SLP มากขึ้น ตามไปด้วย

โดยพิเศษตรงที่เหรียญจะมีอยู่อย่างจำกัดและมีหลักการเดียวกันกับ Governance Token บนแพลตฟอร์ม DeFi ทำให้ผู้เล่นที่ถือเหรียญ สามารถโหวตเปลี่ยนแปลงนโยบายต่าง ๆ ในแพลตฟอร์มได้อีกด้วย

นั่นจึงส่งผลให้เหรียญ SLP และ AXS กลายเป็นที่ต้องการของผู้เล่น จนเกิดการซื้อขายด้วยเงินจริงขึ้นมานั่นเอง

หลายคนคงคิดว่าเป็นเรื่องปกติอยู่แล้ว ที่วงการเกมจะมีการซื้อขายไอเทม ด้วยเงินจริง แต่ที่ Axie Infinity ทำแตกต่างจากเกมอื่น ๆ นั่นก็เพราะว่าพวกเขาได้สร้าง Marketplace สำหรับซื้อขายสิ่งต่าง ๆ ภายในเกมขึ้นมาเป็นของตัวเองเลย

ในขณะที่เกมอื่น ผู้เล่นต้องทำการเจรจาซื้อขายตัวต่อตัวกันเอง
ความสะดวกสบาย รวมถึงความปลอดภัยจึงค่อนข้างแตกต่างกัน

ผู้คนจำนวนหนึ่งที่มีเงินทุนหนาแต่ไม่ค่อยมีเวลา เลยก่อตั้ง Scholar หรือให้ทุนแก่ผู้คนที่ไม่มีเงินทุนเพียงพอ สามารถเข้ามาเล่นได้ โดยจะมีมอนสเตอร์เตรียมไว้ให้พร้อมเริ่มเกมครบ 3 ตัว
ส่วนผลตอบแทนจากการเล่นจะแบ่งตามที่ตกลงกันเอง

ปัจจุบันประเทศที่ผู้คนกำลังนิยมเล่นเกม Axie Infinity มากที่สุดคือ ประเทศฟิลิปปินส์
รองลงมาคือ ประเทศเวเนซุเอลา เมื่อรวมจำนวนผู้เล่นจากสองประเทศนี้จะคิดเป็น 45% ถึง 50% ของผู้เล่นทั้งหมด

หากสังเกตจากข้อมูลจะพบว่า ผู้เล่นส่วนใหญ่นั้นมาจากกลุ่มประเทศกำลังพัฒนา
เหตุผลเพราะว่า พวกเขาต้องพยายามหารายได้ เพื่อชดเชยจากการลดลงของค่าจ้างหรือตกงาน ในช่วงสถานการณ์การแพร่ระบาดของโรคโควิด 19

Vincent Gallarte ชาวฟิลิปปินส์ วัย 25 ปี คือตัวอย่างที่อธิบายถึงปรากฏการณ์ฮิตได้อย่างชัดเจน

ก่อนหน้านี้เขาเคยเป็นพนักงานไอทีของบริษัทแห่งหนึ่ง แต่ถูกไล่ออกจากสถานการณ์โควิด 19
ต่อมา Gallarte ได้รับการบอกต่อเรื่อง Axie Infinity ว่าเป็นเกมที่สามารถสร้างเงินได้ จากญาติและเพื่อนฝูง เขารู้สึกสนใจทันที แต่ด้วยความที่เป็นคนว่างงาน จึงติดปัญหาตรงที่ไม่มีเงินทุนเพียงพอนัก

โชคดีที่มี Scholar ทุนสำหรับให้ผู้เล่นจากเหล่าสปอนเซอร์
ทำให้เขาสามารถเข้าร่วมเล่นเกมได้ในที่สุด

ภายในเวลาเพียงแค่ 2 สัปดาห์ เขาสามารถสร้างรายได้ถึง 24,000 บาทหรือ 3 เท่าจากเงินเดือนเดิมที่เคยได้รับ ส่วนสปอนเซอร์ก็คืนทุนได้อย่างรวดเร็วภายในไม่กี่เดือน

เรื่องราวเหล่านี้เกิดซ้ำแล้วซ้ำเล่า จนสามารถผลักดันให้ผู้เล่นเติบโตอย่างรวดเร็ว
จากเดือนพฤศจิกายน ปีที่แล้ว Axie Infinity มีผู้เล่นเพียง 7,500 คนเท่านั้น
แต่ปัจจุบันกลับมีผู้เล่นแตะยอด 1 ล้านคนเป็นที่เรียบร้อยแล้ว

และจากผู้เล่นที่มากขึ้นก็ส่งผลให้เหรียญ AXS มีมูลค่าตลาดทั้งหมดที่ 142,111 ล้านบาท
ส่วนโทเคน SLP มีมูลค่าตลาดทั้งหมดที่ 9,100 ล้านบาท

นอกจากราคาพวกเหรียญแล้ว ราคาตัวละครและที่ดินภายในเกมก็เพิ่มสูงขึ้นเช่นเดียวกัน
ราคาสูงสุดของเจ้ามอนสเตอร์อยู่ที่ 4.3 ล้านบาท
ขณะที่ราคาที่ดินเคยแตะสูงสุดที่ 49 ล้านบาทเลยทีเดียว

แน่นอนว่าความนิยมอย่างนี้ส่งผลให้ 2 เดือนล่าสุด เจ้าของเกมอย่าง Sky Mavis สร้างรายได้จากการขายไอเทมภายในเกม รวมถึงค่าธรรมเนียมต่าง ๆ ถึง 1.7 หมื่นล้านบาท

อย่างไรก็ตาม มีคนวิเคราะห์ว่า ธุรกิจแบบ Axie Infinity นั้นจะไม่มั่นคงในระยะยาว
เนื่องจากผู้เล่นต้องจ่ายเงินหลายหมื่นบาทล่วงหน้าเพื่อเล่น โดยที่ยังไม่รู้ว่าเกมนี้เกี่ยวกับอะไร
หากวันข้างหน้าเกมได้รับความนิยมลดลง โอกาสที่ผู้คนจะยอมจ่ายก็คงยากขึ้นตามเช่นกัน

อีกเรื่องที่น่าคิดต่อว่า หากวันหนึ่งเกมได้รับความนิยมเล่นน้อยลงกว่าเดิม

We programmed the VCR before anyone else... we remember learning how to use a computer for the first time, we played Atari & Nintendo and Game & Watch. We are the generation of Smurfs, care bears, Soul Train, Gilligan’s Island, Dukes of Hazard, Scooby-Doo, Charlie’s Angels, Wonder Woman, Love Boat, Three’s Company, All in the Family, Little House on the Prairie, Happy Days, & Good Times... We traveled in cars w/o seat belts or airbags, rode in the backs of pick ups & lived without cell phones. We shared a glass of soda. We did not have flat screens, surround sound, I-Pads, Facebook and Twitter... but we had Friendster. We all had a GREAT time ALL the time with each other! ♥️

Play Date went viral and sudden rose in popularity recently becasue of TikTok.

It's saying the girl is nothing more than a friend to someone who seems to care very little about her, even though they get together often. She outwardly proclaims she is just as uncommitted as he is, and how she's tired of all the games she has to play to stay with such uncommitted guy. She wishes she didn’t care about how little he communicates but she can't stop thinking about him. In the final moments of the song, she admits she does care about him and does value their "play date".
