聯合國大會開議第三天，#諾魯 總統安格明呼籲聯合國接納台灣

諾魯總統安格明真誠感謝台灣持續協助對抗武漢肺炎疫情，並呼籲聯合國確保台灣人享有與其他國家人民相同的權利，同時表示不該忽視台灣對抗武漢肺炎疫情的貢獻，台灣是全球對抗疫情的重要夥伴，而台灣不僅有能力也已做好準備。

台灣應當有權利以平等夥伴身分，參與聯合國永續發展目標的實現，台灣也應該被納入「我們的共同議程」願景。

台灣的夥伴價值，值得聯合國重視。

We’d like to thank President Lionel Rouwen Aingimea of #Nauru for the speech he gave on the third day of the #UNGA76 General Debate, praising Taiwan’s efforts to help our partners around the world during the pandemic and calling for our inclusion in the UN, as follows:

“Our efforts to respond to COVID-19 and vaccinate our people would not have been possible without the valuable support provided by our partners. We are truly grateful to our genuine friends Australia, India, Japan and the Republic of China (Taiwan), for their ongoing assistance.

Mr. President, we call on the United Nations to embrace willing and able partners like Taiwan who share common global challenges and to ensure that the people of the Republic of China (Taiwan) enjoy the same rights as the peoples of other nations. The United Nations must live up to its ideals of universality and equality, respecting the worth of every individual. Taiwan is an important partner in the global response to this pandemic, and its exemplary response to the global pandemic should not be ignored. Taiwan is ready to share its experience and aspire to do so by joining the World Health Assembly. Taiwan should have the right to participate as an equal partner in the implementation of the SDGs as they have demonstrated their ability and supported many in the SDG fields. They should also be part of our ‘Our Common Agenda’ vision.”

敬 自由/ 歡歡與小黃

樂手及知名YouTuber歡歡，這幾年不論感情是否順利，都勇敢地將這些故事公開讓大家知道，而這讓他們也成為台灣LGBT+年輕族群的指標人物。台灣在2019年通過同婚專法後，歡歡與她前任是第一批結婚的同性伴侶，雖然月有陰晴圓缺、人有悲歡離合，但就像其他異性伴侶一樣，歡歡並不隱藏過去。

現在，我們很高興歡歡的感情又再次圓滿，外交部今年聯合國推案影片《敬 自由》中，邀請歡歡及她現任伴侶小黃講出他們對台灣婚姻平權的想法：

『如果我們都希望一個更好的世界到來
至少更多的愛要能夠被自由地對待
台灣即使是亞洲第一個(同性婚姻合法國家)
也還是有太多美好的故事，是過去不被認同的秘密
其實我們的相處不會因為法案通過有什麼改變
但心裡真的踏實好多
不再需要更多勇氣就可以在陽光下相愛，這樣很好』

To Freedom / Huan-huan and Xiaohuang
.
Musician and YouTuber Huan-huan has bravely put her love life in the spotlight over the last few years, warts and all, serving as a role model to young LGBT+ people in #Taiwan. She and her former partner were one of the first same-sex couples to get married after the legislation passed in Taiwan. She didn’t cower from showing us that, just like straight couples, not every relationship is built to last, however.

We’re happy to see that she’s moved on, and we featured Huan-huan and her current partner Xiaohuang in our promotional short for #UNGA76. In her own words:

“If we’re all hoping for a better world, then people should be free to love in more ways! Even if Taiwan was first in Asia to legalize same-sex marriage, too many beautiful stories in the past were left unsung and forced into secrecy. Our relationships won’t change with the passing of the law, but it offers a sense of security and it takes less courage now to love in the open. This is good.”

If the UN states part of its mission as encouraging countries around the world to respect the rights of their people, Taiwan's vision of global partnership can serve as a valuable reference.

To Freedom / You and your mother tongue
.
#Taiwan is something of a melting pot in terms of language. We’ve been working hard to reduce the historical stigma attached to some of these languages and to ensure that they are not lost to future generations. New languages are also being carried to our shores by new arrivals, creating a linguistically dynamic young generation of bilingual or multilingual children and young adults. These young people benefit from the ability to engage in intergenerational communication, important in the preservation of cultural identity and for a more cohesive society.

We recently featured an Indonesian teacher in Taiwan--a new arrival--and one of her students--part of this multilingual younger generation--in “To Freedom,” our promotional short to mark the #UNGA76. They tell the story of Taiwan’s respect for all its languages when they say:

“Here, the natural languages of Taiwan’s inherent ethnic groups are official languages. Regardless of what language you speak at home, you’ll continue to be taught it at school. I don’t need a translator to talk with my grandparents.”

If the UN states part of its mission as encouraging countries around the world to respect the rights of their people, Taiwan's vision of global partnership can serve as a valuable reference.
