Sunday mornings at the market 💕

Gaya st, known as Bond st in Colonial times is KK's main st and has several interesting spots to check out: The Sabah Tourism building, still called the old post office by locals, is one of the only remaining pre-war buildings in KK. Gaya st is also heaven for foodies, with several popular resteraunts and kedai kopis (local coffee shop). On Friday and Saturday evenings there is a night market and on Sunday mornings it transforms into a pedestrian only stetch of stalls selling everything from handicrafts to pets. Popular with locals and tourists alike, it's a must visit while in KK. .

This episode takes place in the Sunday market at Gaya Street, Sabah. In happens once a week every Sunday only. You can buy pretty much anything there, even dogs, cats and ducks; which leads to some good street pictures. Eventhough its pretty hectic, the place is quite chill as well with locals just sitting by the road side, chatting whilst having a smoke.

In this episode, we discuss my philosophy behind street photography, why it matters as well as ethical questions to street photography.

Let's start a conversation, what do you think about street photography and its ethics?

I've realised that these segments are quite candid and unscripted with me just discussing how I feel about a certain topic. I plan to do more scripted content in the future so let me know what you'd like to see!

For this episode, two tourists tag along with Eric Thien (Sabah Senior Guide) to discover the Gaya Street Sunday Market and trying the local food. Watch the video and see their reactions when the food was served!


Food/drink featured in the video:

Freshly Blended Juice : Walking along Gaya Street you may see people carrying a whole fruit with straws inserted. The tip of the chilled fruit is cut open and the whole fruit is juiced. Perfect when strolling along the Sunday market.

Coconut Ice Cream: Fresh coconut milk is made into ice cream with toppings such as nuts and pineapple.

Pineapple Polo Bun : A sweet bun with warm pineapple filling and a crusty top. Soft and crusty goodness!

Bubur Cha Cha : A sweet kind of dessert which is made from coconut milk with sweet potato, sago, yam or bananas.

Kuih Lenggang : Pandan pancake with grated coconut mixed with palm sugar.

Laksa: A type of noodle soup. Coconut milk based soup with a hint of spiciness.
