After Edward Snowden left Hong Kong and was granted asylum in Russia, Vanessa Rodel and the other refugees who hid him moved forward with their Hong Kong refugee status applications. Their cases were rejected in 2017.
As of now, only Rodel and her daughter Keana have been granted asylum in Canada.
Lawyers working on behalf of the other refugees who hid Snowden said the Canadian government is still considering their cases.

Phone calls being eavesdropped, website browsing history being intercepted, location being tracked... Are all of these done by hackers? The real culprit may be the government! There are surveillance programs by governments of different countries, and they never stop. PRISM, a surveillance program carried out by the NSA which was exposed by Edward Snowden, was only a tip of the iceberg. BLACK CODE reveals how the internet is being controlled and manipulated by governments to censor and monitor their citizens. Snowden, internet privacy experts and victims whose privacy has been invaded would appear in the film to disclose the surveillance tactics by the governments.
