🇻🇳 Wet rice agriculture on terraced paddy fields is still one of the main economic activities in Sapa district of Lào Cai province, despite the fact that tourism has grown to outweigh everything else since mid-90s when the government opened the door fully to international tourism.

People of Sapa area have been very poor even by Vietnam's rural standards. Nowadays, since hundreds of thousands tourists go there for sightseeing and trekking, lives of people in Sapa city has changed tremendously. Some visitors do not want to see the region to be commercialized, this the visitation has been on a downward trend in recent 5 years time.

Hopefully the Vietnam government can work out a system to develop sustainable ecotourism so as to improve local people's life as well as protecting the unique beauty of the region.
