When your mother can’t wait to send you back to school…🤭
.
It means the school is good lah! 😌 I’m a good mother ok. In fact, Didi loves his school so much that he always wakes up early and rushes us to bring him to school. 😆
Enrolling Didi in NTUC First Campus’ My First Skool is the best decision we have made! Initially, location of the preschool was a key consideration for us. We chose My First Skool because it was within travel distance and it’s also easier to send and pick Didi up from school since our eldest is schooling nearby in Serangoon Central. Thereafter, we realized there were many other values such as their Quality and Holistic curriculum that nurtures Didi in every aspect - literacy skills, social emotional skills, resiliency etc. Seeing the photo updates by teachers on our parent portal apps, we know how much Didi have progressed and enjoyed his time in school!
The kiasu me have already registered Xiaomei for their playgroup next year 2021!! My First Skool is currently running a promotion that gives away a free $50 NTUC Fairprice voucher when you register with them at selected centres by 4 Jan 2021. Promotion ends 30 Sep! Terms apply.

Books are such an important tool to add to your arsenal as a mama and as an educator. Early literacy, although so pivotal, isn’t just the only thing that they are learning as the delve into the literary world.
Little ones get to explore feelings, processes, familiarity, understanding, identity, guidance and numerous other gains that aren’t always quantifiable.
These four books are what Ella Grace chose to read last night and are usually in very heavy rotation in our home.
As a mama, it tells me so much about what she is working through. She’s at that age where she is learning who she is and that her thoughts and actions are separate from mama. But more importantly, that she understands that she sometimes makes mistakes or acts out.
Little ones always want to please their mamas and daddies the most and so through these books, she is reassured and understands that mama’s love for her goes beyond everything she can ever do or say or act or react. (I Love You Because You’re You)
With the death of a close family friend, she’s also learning about life cycles and that parents grow old and that sometimes the roles are reversed so we’ve also had many conversations about it as she processes it and why she loves reading ‘I Love You Forever’.
Mama’s favorite sous chef identifies with ‘My Mother’s Kitchen’ and I love looking for books that have some sort of cultural representation of her life in Malaysia which is also so important for little ones. Scroll down for bookstore recommendations!
And lastly, ‘My Very Own Space’ helps her navigate the introvert parts of her that is also learning to be social and invite friendships.
It’s amazing how much the world opens up for them with books but more importantly, it’s amazing how much they find value and identity in them.
How do you start?
Just read. Pick a book together or take them to the library. Set up reading corners. They don’t have to be fancy. You don’t even have to be fancy.
One of our favorite times together is reading but very often, I will also find her in her room or in our living room curled up in her reading corner just “reading” to herself.
There is no science to it. The magic is in the books itself.
