The Dragon boat festival, also known as Tuen Ng festival 端午節, falls on the fifth day of the fifth month in the Chinese lunar calendar. The fierce-looking Dragon Boat and the beats of heavy drum during the races were once used to scare away fish 🐟 in the ancient China! Wat Yuen 屈原, a well-known minister in ancient China, commited suicide in the Miluo River 汨羅江 after a conflict with the King. Local people, who admired Wat Yuen, raced out in their boat, hoping to retrieve his body. They kept beating the drums and throwing rice dumplings on their way to stop the fish from eating Wat Yuen’s body. 🚣🏻🚣🏻 Nowadays, Hong Kong people will eat rice dumplings and watch or even participate in the dragon boat races to commemorate Wat Yuen.
