Everyone queuing in front of me ordered rice with dishes, specifically this huge FRIED CHICKEN THIGH (similar to those like ayam penyet but it is not smashed). Unfortunately, it was sold out before I arrived at the front of the queue (at 1pm!!). ⁣

Nonetheless, I still went for the fried chicken wings. All of the side dishes I’ve tried were palatable. You've got to try Al Ehsan’s lontong too! Garnished with dried shrimp chilli, the compressed rice cakes were delish! This is probably the cheapest nasi padang that I’ve come across thus far! I will definitely be back for its huge fried chicken thigh!!⁣

This is one of the oldest coffee shops in Singapore and has been family-run for more than 70 years. It’s a real blast from the past, with the original signboard and weathered tables. Their traditional coffee really hits the spot and it is amongst the best in town. It’s strong and aromatic, and regulars will buy their coffee powder too!⁣

Their Breakfast Set comes with coffee, kaya toast and two half-boiled eggs and, at $3.60, is one of the cheapest around. The perfectly crisp toast is served with slices of butter and a generous spread of their kaya jam. Dip the kaya toast into the eggs or pair it with kopi. Oh, if you have space in your stomach, order a plate of wanton mee too!⁣

Originated from Tokyo, Haritts has since expanded its business to Taipei and Singapore. The brand is known to serve some of the fluffiest handmade Doughnuts- whether classic or creative flavors (noteworthy ones are Goma Anko, Curry, Caramel Walnuts, Earl Grey, Roasted Tea etc). Since we were in Taipei, we took the opportunity to try Haritts’ Doughnuts. The Doughnut parlor is tucked away in a tiny back lane near Nanjing Fuxing Station (Exit 5). The exterior is just as ordinary as any other cafes in town but if you have planned a visit here, you might want to do it before noon as the regular crowd usually flocks in at noon. They would wallop everything and you will need to wait for a couple of hours before the next batch of Doughnuts is ready. Apart from enjoying the fluffy, pillowy and lightly-sweetened Doughnuts, the place is also perfect for chilling and photography. Not the cheapest Doughnuts but definitely one of the best. Do note that for everyone who dines in, it is mandatory to order a cup of drink.
