閱讀紙本書，在電子媒介為資訊傳播主流的這個時代，反而成了一種癖好。除了是長久以來的習慣，翻閱書本的動作本身，有種實在感。由手指與手腕甚至手臂完成的翻頁，推敲，思考，比用指尖按滑鼠或觸控式螢幕所閱讀的內容似乎來的流暢與深刻。甚至書頁上的茶漬，筆痕，都是多年後回味的記憶點。
接下來會藉由臉書與大家分享我喜歡的幾本書， 算是另類的讀書會吧。
而這次我想分享的是各位也會感到興趣的一本翻譯書“小寶貝: 精彩的0-2歲影響一生”。作者是動物學家 Desmond Morris 。它比較像是給新手爸媽小百科全書。書中以動物學角度去詮釋寶寶的各種行為，如哭泣，微笑，其中一段討論讓我印象深刻，靈長類動物裡，人類的小寶寶是唯一使用微笑換取照顧的動物，微笑讓其照顧者對他產生愛護感。出生幾個禮拜的小嬰兒便能夠微笑，即便在視力仍然不佳時。小朋友的微笑讓他們不費吹灰之力就讓大人們自然而然愛上他們。

Print books have become a non-mainstream medium of information publication in this day and age. However, I still prefer reading books as my main source of knowledge and studies. Apart from it being my habit, I find the engagement of finger and hands, even elbow to turn pages, seems to intensify the process of thinking and contemplation during reading. Sometimes tiny stains or pencil marks on books even become points of memory when revisiting years later.
I would like to share with you a book that I have read recently. Maybe you will like it too. “Amazing Baby: the amazing story of the first two years of life” by Desmond Morris. He is a zoologist who has an interest in human behaviours. Although it is more like a mini-encyclopaedia for first-time parents, I like their anthropological and zoological perspective on common behaviours of babies such as crying and smiling. Babies are the only animals that use smiles to establish bonds with their carers. A newborn of a few weeks old can already smile, even when they yet to develop good vision. Babies' smiles make parents fall in love instantly.
